Such a feat is technically possible. A rifle bullet, placed in JUST the right place (actually, several on that particular aircraft) could cause it to crash or at last be damaged in such a way that it has to make an emergency landing. But the odds are astronomically against someone intentionally targeting and successfully hitting one of those vulnerable places.
That being said - the photo included has him holding a shotgun...

Indeed shotguns can pack plenty of punch. And we know two things: The Russians are famous for not putting much if any armor around the pilots and there are lots of pics of Russian planes coming in really low to avoid, they think, SAMs, etc.
If the guy kept coming in low he might very well have given a scattergunner a clean shot. If Ivan took a sabot thru his window the plane might have hit pretty hard. I’m not sure anyone is saying the shotgun in the pic is the gun he used? That part might be a headfake?

Back in the '80s the Afghan Mujahedeen would occasionally take down a Soviet 'copter with a WWI vintage rifle. Then we gave them stingers.
