This entire thread is made up of people who don’t realize how firearm illiterate reporters are. The story says a rifle and other pictures are of him holding a long sks rifle.
The shotgun is some staged unrelated photo.
Now, do I believe the magic bb story? Doubtful, although it happens. Notably the Red Baron was shot by a rifleman. And the plane did go down. That’s undisputed. Did the old guy shoot at a low and slow plane? Probably. Russia has been having to use dumb gravity bombs and have to stay low and slow to hit anything.
That said it’s probably a handy coincidence. The plane probably broke bc they are terrible planes.
Maybe more. Probably don't stupid laws about plugging them.
I remember the simplified “Small unit defense against air attack” graphics in the U.S. Army manual. For a crossing slow target like a helicopter, a rifle shooter would have to lead it be fifty yards or so. Also, those estimates are for spraying automatic fire ahead of the target; this guy appears to be carrying a Mosin-Nagant.
I am skeptical....though I suppose the real test of this story's news value is — will the Joint Chiefs & whoever whispers in Joe Biden's cognitive fog come to believe that aircraft sent into battle in the US would also be at risk? Especially given the 5X speed of AR-15 rounds!!
However, this man is brave. Not even wearing a mask! Should his town be overrun, this photo could place him in serious danger.

Shotgun? It reminds me of Biden’s tale of grabbing the shotgun and shooting a few rounds off the back deck. Doing that might take down an airliner full of passengers.
Biden says that Anericans will need nukes and F-35’s. We can just hire this guy!
