Russia doesn't have the gloves to take off. It's simply incapable. Look at Russian aviation. Being unable to overcome UA air defense, they have to fly low and slow, which limits the range and number of bases from which they can operate and leaves them vulnerable to MANPADS. Plus the wear and tear on aging airframes, maintenance issues, etc., seriously reduce the number of sorties. Ground troops lack sufficient mobility and above all training, making them unable to adapt to changing circumstances. This has improved over the course of the war, but recent losses at Vuhledar and Aavdivka suggest not by much.

Putin simply does not have Stalin's ability to coerce new divisions into existence. Russia's political weakness also hamstrings its operations because Putin cannot call up troops from the major metropolitan areas of Moscow and St. Petersburg because of fear of the political fallout. The Russian government is also wracked by internal political struggles with possibly deadly consequences for the higher ups. Shoigu's daughter and her family are cooling their heels in the UAE for a reason. Not exactly a vote of confidence in the system. Like Hitler, Putin plays favorites and sets commanders against one another and gives orders impossible or destructive to fulfill.

As far as the hate goes, that is reciprocated by the Ukrainians, the Poles, Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, Georgians etc. Virtually every nation around Russia hates Russia with a passion and for good reason. And Putin has performed the alchemical miracle of converting a great deal of Ukraine's Russian speakers into Ukrainians.

The Russian media has been saying that for a while.

It’s a small town in a punch bowl. To the west there are hills rising about the east. The Russians will be hammered and sniped every minute they sit there. And it’s too muddy to get their armor up the hills or through the marshy areas.

Congratulations. You’ve spend months trying to gain 1/2 mile of territory that is going to cost even more to hold.

“Bakmut Has Fallen”

Funny, that might be news to the Russian Colonel who got sniped in Bakmut this morning. I hope his family enjoys their Easter knowing he died to make Russia Soviet again.

Did it ever occur to you that Russia might of been trying to limit Uke casualties? Did it occur to you that if they had wanted to, they could of simply employed thermobarics from planes, artie, even hand helds? That’s only one aspect. They’re not as crippled as you’d like to think. I simply don’t want a war and see my country get dragged into one, yet so many seem to cheerlead it. I care not what happens over there. Not my circus, not my monkeys. I have enough problems here. Most Uke cheerleaders won’t be happy until their kids are dying.

Take a look at Mariupol, not much rebuilding there.

Russians destroy wherever they go in Ukraine.

Ukraine is the war that has been won and lost simultaneously by both sides since it began.

Enjoy your rubble Vlad. You’re going to have to rebuild Bakhmut the same way you rebuilt Mariupol.

Ukraine goes away, splits up, Vlad gets his chess pieces and the rest becomes absorbed by Poland. Instant NATO expansion and problem doesn’t go away.

Regarding Russia's capabilities, that's on paper. You have to look at the details. Take the Russian armored thermobaric "flamethrower" for example. They have a limited number and they have a limited range of a few kilometers. If they are spotted, then Ukrainian artillery or ATGMs go after them. To be used adequately even in an urban environment you need good artillery spotters who know where the Ukrainians are and who can keep the weapon from killing Russian troops. The Ukrainians aren't stupid, they don't concentrate a lot of forces in an area where one shot by that device or artillery can hit them, which reduces its effectiveness even if it is used.

Regarding the war itself, I don't see NATO borders as magical lines: if Putin succeeds here, he'll go after the Baltics or Poland next. And allowing all of Europe's wealth and technical know-how to join with Russia and China cannot possibly be in US interests, so the US should act to see that Russia gains nothing from this war so it won't be tempted to try again any time soon.

I haven’t seen such an out of touch paragraph in some time.

China got all the tech it needs from the US decades ago, and we continue to build their economy and military with every purchase. You clearly have no idea of Russian military capabilities and have heavily exaggerated those of the Uke’s. Uke’s are stupid by nature. They love Nazis. I saw this personally in my time there. They actively participated in the festivities. There are many good Ukrainian people, but they’re so poor, they’re nothing but political pawns and human shields for the Uke’s who gun em down when they attempt to flee an area. This whole war could of been avoided, and the idea that Russia is going after more territory after this I find ludicrous. However, if Russia came to Canada, it might be an improvement at this point. US isn’t far behind. The issues we face at home have never been so dire as they are now.

New allies are being formed as the west keeps making more enemies and making the future of our children increasingly dangerous. Hey, let’s just keep prodding war on, what can go wrong? We’re the holy, righteous good guys right?

This is wild speculation of the most inflammatory kind.
