Why would mercenaries have anything to do with or be needed for Russian nukes?
If Russia has a couple of military bases in Belarus and thousands of regular military forces and is openly moving nukes to Belarus, why not just send the regular personnel assigned to those devices and operations?
How would Wagner fit into the normal operation of the Russian military units trained on and assigned to nuke duty?
Other than doing the usual which would be serving as security, how could Wagner have any possible connection to Russian Army nuclear weapons operations?

Seems to be the upshot.
I can’t see how Putin or Russia benefits from this “protest,” “stunt,” or “coup” that Progozhin did, whether staged or not.
If there was some hidden benefit (for example, bringing some traitorous or corrupted elements out into the open) then we won’t ever really know about it.
I understand why Russia may want to open a new front, or feint, near Kiev, but its not like Wagner could remain hidden. US satellites will easily see them massing troops and equipment.
Or the FSB had agents inside Wagner that made it fizzle out.
The coup wasn’t staged by Putin.
I wish it was true though. Because if it was, it would make Putin a direct enemy of the Russian people - because of all the Russian blood that was spilled during the coup :

49 pilots, copilots and Russian army personnel killed.
And that’s only what they didn’t succeed to hide...
So if Putin did the coup he should be arrested by the Russian justice and get a life time in prison for the proactive and premeditated killings or Russian citizens.

This war is the most open, ever in history. Both sides have access to multiple platforms of drones, aircraft and satellites.
