“Providing jobs for over one million workers nationwide, Mexico’s automotive industry hosts a workforce known for its skill and low-cost structure.”

“UAW represents 46,000 workers at GM, 57,000 workers at Ford and 44,000 workers at Stellantis, according to the union.”

"We don’t get to work remotely."

I would like to know who Fain was referencing in this comment. If you work on the assembly line or in fabrication, you can't really do that remotely.
I do get his point about how corporate is a bit different--there are those who abuse the remote work, and if the plants need answers from those individuals and they are not responsive, its bad--and that is on management..

Remember when Obama boasted for saving GM, the idea of GM going into bankruptcy was unthinkable to nearly every politician in Washington.

The US economy is a quasi-free enterprise system, one of the beautiful things about free enterprise is creative destruction.

New industries start up and drive out of business old, outdated companies.

The big 3 automakers are old and outdated, the method of manufacturing is outdated, compared to other countries and companies like Tesla, the obvious reason is lack of unions.

It would be terrible in the short term if the Big 3 all had to file for bankruptcy, even though they are in debt, they are not worthless, they have manufacturing plants all over the country which are very valuable.

Just think for a minute, what would happen if the Big 3 all filed for bankruptcy, it would be shocking, it would also mean their assets could be sold off to other companies, perhaps to people like Elon Musk and Tesla, perhaps to Nissan, Honda, BMW, etc.

The airline industry is a good example of what could happen, the airline unions were crushed in the 80s, they have made a comeback but it’s taken a lot of time.

If the Big 3 went thru Bankruptcy, a number of new companies would be formed using the existing factories in states that are right to work states, cars would still be made and would be affordable to average Americans.

I say don’t fear auto industry going bankrupt, think of it as a chance to crush the unions, move jobs to profitable states, and reinvigorate US Manufacturing.

Good luck with that.
It affirms what I have been thinking for the last 2 years.
The Chinese are trying to destroy the remains of the USA car market.
They are using President Diapers connections with the Unions to push them over the edge.
End result is both Unions and Big Three are destroyed and China walks in and takes their market.

THAT has been going on for 50 years. Drunk or High, makes no difference. Big 3 can ALL go to hell and take the UAW with them.

Big 3 & UAW do us all a favor, just DIE already.

So if (as I’ve read) Ford is losing (depending on the model) about $9,000 to $66,000 per EV they make, if the UAW shuts down their production lines, Ford won’t be digging their EV hole any deeper?

A minor problem for UAW...

Aren’t Toyotas, Hondas, Kia, etc made in the USA without UAW workers?

I think they’re doing this because they’re pissed at Biden. The UAW is not onboard with the electric car cheerleading, combine that with the denigration of gas-powered cars within the Democrat Party elite, this could be a shot across the bow to the environmentalist wing of the Democrat party. I guarantee this wouldn’t be happening if Trump was still president. The traditional unions are growing disillusioned with the Democrats and may actually start listening to the rank-and-file for once, and conservatives can start to solidify their hold on blue-collar workers. They just have to get rid of the Paul Ryan/Mitt Romney a-holes first.

We should not forget the big American plants building Hondas, Nissans, Toyotas, Hyundais and VW’s here in the USA and building lots of new vehicles Americans buy in BIG numbers.

Labor costs have little to do with the recent enormous increases in car prices. Chip shortages and other production problems reduced supply by both domestic and import brands while ultra-low interest rates and COVID payments boosted demand. The domestic manufacturers reacted by price-gouging and price fixing to increase profits.

The managers at the Big Three who were so adept at fleecing consumers can hardly complain when the UAW now wants their cut.

Well, when the workers are demanding what they’re demanding the labor costs WILL increase the prices.

As for the current increases, say what you want, but when Mary Barra says that there is no way that GM will ever go back to building cars at the pace they used to, creating surpluses, and being forced to lower the prices. She’s going to keep the production where it’s at so the prices can stay high.

And that’s where a guy like Pres Trump comes in. He sees the American people getting crushed and he takes action. Congress and the current admin do not care.

That’s what they’re all afraid of.

“That should pretty much finish off all auto production in this country.”

Nope. Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz all have large plants here. The US made car with the most US parts is actually the Toyota Camry.

Chrysler is already owned by a French company and isn’t a US company anymore. Ford and GM need to go.

Those factories cannot be moved. They are part of the industrial capacity.

GM, Ford, Chrysler need to go to get rid of the UAW. There is no other way. Do not purchase a vehicle made by the UAW
