It seems Louisiana voters made the right choice in their choice for governor last year. Closed primaries would seem to be a no-brainer. Other GOP majority states should do the same.

Some GOP psycho claimed that a Democrat voting in the GOP Primary will be more likely to vote GOP in November. Part of the mass insanity that occurred during the Hippie Movement. Glad to see at least some Republicans FINALLY coming to their senses.

Very wise. Sick to death of having Democrats choose our candidates.

to those who say ‘good’ to a ‘closed primary’, the one-time voting, instead of re-voting with each run-off, i agree. the ‘closed primaary’ also cuts out any ‘other than the dem/rep constituents from voting in the primary process.

In some states independent have to declare dem or rep in o order to vote in primary, or not vote in primary.

Senate Bill 8, sponsored by Sen. Glen Womack, R-Madisonville, and preferred by Landry, would transform Republican U.S. Rep. Garret Graves’ 6th Congressional District into a second Black-majority district.

Sounds to me like Republicans ceding more power to the Democrats in the never-ending gerrymandering contest. How is that good? Or am I missing something.

You’re not missing anything.

But they had no choice since a black-robed Democrat tyrant demanded that Louisiana gerrymander another Democrat district.

This officially the GOP -2 in the House going into November (this, plus Alabama). They *may* get +3 in North Carolina. They *will* get something like -4 in New York. And other judicial gerrymanders to help Democrats are possible (Wisconsin especially).

Looking at the map, the district follows the Red River from Baton Rouge to Shreveport. Most of Caddo Parish is left out of the new district, but 90% of the population lives in Shreveport. Not good.

I haven’t seen the final map but I trust it’s bad.

Since Graves was the Republican targeted for extinction, I assumed that the new district would be centered on the Baton Rouge ghetto and then include rural black areas if necessary.

But it would be just as easy to draw the new mandated racist district in the Shreveport area.

Good! I am sick to death of open primaries - how is it that they are even allowed? Why should Dems have any influence on who becomes the Republican nominee, or the other way around? To me, one of the worst examples of this was when Dems came out in SC in 2008 and voted in the hundreds of thousands for McStain, destroying Fred Thompson’s campaign. FT would have fought Obama hard on the campaign trail…and we know what McStain did, all because of open primaries.

If Independents can’t mount their own candidate, that’s their own shortcoming.

into a second Black-majority district

Why is it that Blacks get "majority" districts? What about other ethnic groups?

Or how about just having districts and let the voters determine?

In the article, the link to Senate Bill 8 goes to the House Bill referred to below it.

The correct link is https://legis.la.gov/legis/BillInfo.aspx?i=245512&sbi=y

Junk news sources getting it wrong.

This article has a graphic of the new districts.

If someone could post the graphic, that would be helpful.

The enrolled bill has a bevey of data on the districts at the end of the bill including racial and party breakdowns of the districts.
