I have wondered if Abbott is doing this because of or in spite of the election year. It would be nice if he was doing it just because it is the right thing to do.

The National Guard is a reserve component of the US Army, which the feds allow the state governors to use when not needed in federal service.

But

Texas also has a State Guard independent of the National Guard

The Texas State Guard, different from the Texas National Guard, has a max age limit of.......70

Not that that is going to have much bearing on it. If the SHTF, I'm not as fast on my feet at 70 as I was as an infantryman in 1978, but I still have good corrected eyesight and a scoped 30.06 zeroed to 400 yards ...

Not up on how all this works, but didn’t Clinton put in place that all state guards were under the control of the Feds??

“I was unwilling to be be in the TNG and end up back being cannon fodder on pointless missions.”

That was a wise move.

it would, lots of itchy trigger fingers. If Abbott and Paxton keep making trouble, they might get the Seth Rich treatment.

I would be willing to wager that the administration knows that they would be stepping into a buzzsaw/hornet nest if they try or say anything stupid.

No, he did not and could not.

The state guard answers only to the state.

The Texas State Guard is part of the state military force of Texas, and one of three branches of the Texas Military Forces.

Along with the other two branches, the TXSG falls under the command of the Governor of Texas and is administered by the Adjutant General of Texas, an appointee of the Governor.

Wow, “.....we are basically in a post constitutional America where political might makes right so who knows how it plays out.......”

That would mean that election fraud is OK, if you are the ruling party. That would mean that going after political opponents via spying, misuse of the court system is a valid use of staying in power.

Those things if they can be proven in a court and are ignored are what doom a democratic republic. Many people feel we are getting there, but I still have hope that the Supreme Court will take a long view.

I too hope for sanity but I plan for things to get worse. I fled from a blue state to a red one with the idea that if lines start getting drawn I will be in the right side of them.

Just think what more will happen when we stand to up the centralized federal govt.

One of the factors for the demise of the Soviet Union was the satellite countries beginning to ignore the central govt.
