Many lower-level schools, and even many high schools, grade on a 100-pt system. So instead of rounding your overall grades to the nearest 2.5th (like a 4.0 system does), you keep your grade as-is for GPA calculations.

I’ve never understood the 4.0 GPA system. No one grades your hw out of four points to one decimal place, so why do so at the end of the semester?

Good catch on the school selection. No doubt the parents have been putting her in the spotlight. A search of her name brings up her speeches and media appearances, including with her parents.

Kudos to her for her grade of 100. But, she’s complaining that students with a 94 or above shouldn’t be put in the same group. So, then, what should the cutoff be? They’re all A-students. And a 100 doesn’t tell us enough. A 100 at one school could be a 94 at another. A 100 might be easier in a history class than a higher-level math course.

The real issue here is that most parents feel entitled to a free education for their children. Then, they fight over spots in the top public schools. Watching people argue over the NYC public schools is like watching socialism in action.

I have no issues understanding the 4 point grade point system. But a 100 point system might help in cases of several students with a 4.0+GPA and determining Valedictorian and such. BUT- that also might be another vector for preferential treatment and/or grade inflation to “boost” one student over others...

On the other hand, a 100pt GPA system would remove the “bonus” for taking AP/weighted courses that usually get an extra pt....
