If it modifies your DNA you become a patentable generically modified organism (gmo) and property of the patent holder. Checkout the plight of farmers whose heritage crops were contaminated by pollen drift from gmo crops.

Corona viruses - most of us have had exposure to at least one if not many in our lives and we don't have to have the exact same exposure each time - in the SARS/Covid example, there was enough similarity between SARS and the virus described as "Covid" (It was actually seasonal flu - the PCR Covid tests do not identify the Covid virus, but a 'related corona virus") When the viruses are different, there can still be partial resistance or immunity, and if no prior exposure or immunity, illness.
