Excellent post! Everyone FReeper & their friends/relatives should read
The Cloning of the American Mind Eradicating Morality Through Education
by B.K. Eakman, Huntington House Publishers

Find out the entire story of our education system and who the players are who are purposely trying to destroy the US culture through our youth. HOW did it happen in Russia, in China? and is happening here! Centuries of culture gone in 50.

This is reminiscent of a song parody by Stan Freberg called "Elderly Man River." I believe that it was done in the summer of 1957.

The gist of the skit (it was aired on CBS radio) was that Mr. Freberg was continually interrupted as he tried to sing "Old Man River" by an individual who insisted that none of the lyrics could be permitted to offend anyone.

Rather prescient, it seems. It's a pity that Mr. Freberg is no longer engaged in lampooning such nonsense.

I find the alphabet particularly offensive. It is the tool with which all written offenses made. It is high time that the state educational services remove all letters in the alphabet from any written materials provided to children in public schools.

Great post! I caught it on Yahoo and was going to post it myself if nobody else had.

This is not just a fluke. In fact this is a bellweather event. Our culture is disintegrating. Probably beyond repair.

I would like to point out that Rudy the Great was the most powerful politician in New York during this outrage and the dufus governor is a so called Republican as well.

Creative headline by the story's author. I like it..."The ELDERLY Man and the Sea" for "The Old Man and the Sea." Anyway, this is quite a shock......and no matter what NY wants to justify this by, they are wrong. Altering an author's work WITHOUT PERMISSION and CLAIMING IT IS THEIR WORK is fundamentally wrong. They could have the best logic and the best reasoning in the world and it still would not make it right. And their reasoning is not good....it is idiotic.

As I recall it, the SAT Verbal I took in 1961 rephrased passages from literature. One passage rephrased A. Huxley and then offered multiple choice answers. The answer that would be considered correct required the test taker to affirm evolution. I intentionally left it blank, knowing it would hurt my SAT score.

Another passage dropped Jefferson's words creator and God.

There has always been political correctness, in the authors and passages chosen; in the rephrasing of them; and in requiring the parroting of a certain point of view in order to get a good grade.

"Even the most wonderful writers don't write literature for children to take on a test."

Then why bother with in the first place if it's not meant for them?

They claim we cannot distort the truth and learn science, while they give themselves the "sinless" freedom to standardize us to sovietized stupidity.

Fascinating. They sanitize the Classic works of literature, and yet do nothing about the Prime Time Slime crew.
How sad a commentary on our country when there is more of a fuss made over Mark Twain's use of the 'n' word or Shakespear's 'harlots' than is made of pre-teens on TV saying much worse...

Thanks for the heads up.....we know it isn't about truth and academics anymore, it's about "the agenda."

My favorite quote, from Ray Bradbury, on the subject:

"There is more than one way to burn a book. And the world is full of people running about with lit matches. Every minority...feels it has the will, the right, the duty to douse the kerosene, light the fuse.

Every dimwit editor who sees himself as the source of all dreary blanc-mange plain porridge unleavened literature, licks his guillotine and eyes the neck of any author who dares to speak above a whisper or write above a nursery rhyme."

Prologue to Fahrenheit 451
