Searched for this one, but did not find it posted.

If true it would most certainly have been mentioned by chroniclers of the era. As a student of Roman history I am unaware of any mention of such an event in extant texts.

You must have read my mind. As I was posting the article, I was wondering if there was any written record of it.
I was also wondering if the date coincides with one of the dates that blam has mentioned in the tree-ring record.

I'm surely not as aware of Roman history as yourself, but I've always thought the Romans had a habit of recording just about everything, even the extremely mundane. An asteroid strike 60 miles away would have probably been noticed by someone. I doubt the accuracy of their dating methods.

"I was also wondering if the date coincides with one of the dates that blam has mentioned in the tree-ring record." Nah. The dates (tree rings) closest to this date is 44BC and 540AD. It must not have put up much of a dust veil.

The tree ring events that I report on are those that only have a worldwide effect. I will look later tonight to see if I can find any data on local events and also the ice core data.

This map shows that Pescara (crater location) is on the east coast of Italy, while Rome is on the west. Using the scale, it looks like they are >200 km apart.
The article claims that "No matter what the trajectory of the asteroid entry, it would have been a phenomenal sight from Rome", but if it was a cloudy day and the asteroid came from the east, I think it might have gone unnoticed except for the sound. Do you have any idea what the population of Pescara was in 412 AD?
Could the destruction of Pescara escape the notice of the roman scribes?
Maybe an archaeologist freeper is familiar with digs in and around Pescara?
