I am so freaking tired of hearing about the black vote and all that Bush need to do to gain those votes. Those who speak on behalf of blacks still have the mentality that we need to be lead about with some type of leash or something.

To use Armstrong Williams, he is such a militant brotha, but his zeal is misdirected (I believe). There's only so much Bush can do. What is Armstrong and other men doing to engage the black community to show the opportunities that are out there? Not just during an election cycle but every day of the week?

If there is a failure of courting the black vote, it's our responsibility, even in the face of being called names to return to the black community and show why we believe as we do in the Republican Party.

The GOP doesn't have the black vote, never had the black vote ... so there is nothing to lose. In the last general election 85% of the black vote went to Gore.

"I mean what do Black Americans who are deeply religious have in common with a mostly rich liberal all white homosexual atheist democratic hierarchy. This is a weakness that needs to be exposed and exploited"

That is perplexing. Something else I've never heard discussed, in relation to the black community. Abortion. googling netted this, which I must say, mirrors my own misconception about black pregnacies:

http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2003/002/11.21.html

"....Black abortion epidemic
"The perception is that we as black people keep our children," Simpson says. The reality, she says, is that 512 of every 1,000 African American pregnancies end in abortion.

African American women constitute 13 percent of the female population in the United States. However, they have 36 percent of the abortions, according to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, Planned Parenthood's research arm. In Pennsylvania, the figures are even more disproportionate. Ten percent of the female population is black, but they have 45 percent of all abortions in Pennsylvania..."

The true measure of success for the Republicans is the solidification of their voting base and that is pro-life, pro-gun, anti-taxes, anti quotas, anti socialism, Pro-Religion.....When this force is hardened like steel and strongly motivated to vote is when the Republicans are very successful....And it does not matter what you skin color is as opposed to the racial bating of the Democrats.

This is a good article. There is one problem with coming up with "solutions" to the gang and lack of careful parenting problems in urban black communities. Social engineering fails because the powers that be have to "reward" (and it's always with money and opportunities) people for making the good choices that lots of people are already making with no rewards, making them resentful, and also alienating people who have made the wrong decisions, often being callous toward innocents (the babies they have made).

So, what do you do? What I always keep coming around to is the difference between poor urban black people's behavior now and 50 years ago. [Anti-black] Racism is way, way down since then. So, what did they have that we don't have now? Shame. Social stigma. Yep, that's the only thing we can do: get ourselves back to having high expectations of our family members and neighbors.

It may take a couple of generations. We absolutely must insist on public decency by our children (teach your kids to hold open doors, or at least not slam them in other people's faces). Keep their car stereo's volume down, or roll up the windows. Smile at friendly faces on the street; we are actually NOT "dogs" and we should be able to make eye contact without fear. We need more intergenerational action. Even in the most primitive traditional societies, people learn from and respect their elders. Let's start with that.

Kids, if you don't want to see Granny in a thong and butt-huggers, what makes you think we want to see you like that? Would it be OK for your Dad to have 6 inches of his boxers hanging out in public? Then don't do it either.

I think we need to start shaming and shunning our own kids if they are not society-ready. The first punishment should be NO MTV, EVER.

This article is so much BS. Blacks own the Democrat party, why would they vote GOP? They are the sharpest and meanest critics of the president and wouldn't vote for the president under any circumstances. Those blacks that are already in the Republican party are there for philosophical reasons, and are not being bribed like those in the Democrat party.

There IS no black vote that the GOP can latch to. If you can't get votes on the basis of Condi and Powell and Thomas, then what the masses want isn't qualified intelligent blacks who have made success largely on their own determination. And the political power group that won't give a thumbs up to its own when they accomplish something is a vote we don't need.

Glenn Beck mada a great point this morning...the black vote is bought and sold to the Democrats, because it is an unthinking vote. If it were a thinking vote, then it would be the GOP's already...it was Republicans who passed the Civil Rights act while Algore's dad sandbagged. Past Pubbies have done much more for them than the Dems...and the Dems ignore the black vote because they know they have it. And the Republicans ignore the black vote because they are sure they can't get it.

Righto. Go for the hispanics, because they haven't decided any one group to follow, and they are willing to go either way.

Please provide a link to the article since your link does not work. When I went to the paper you got the article from, this is what I was told:

"Sorry, your search returned no matches for GOP Breaks Its Vows to Black voters."

Not to mention this paper seems like a tabloid!

> Probably not. There are moral issues out there, and for some reason the Dems are pumping the moral pump the right way for the black voters and several other disadvantaged groups.

I think there's a lot to this statement. Bill Clinton did a very saavy thing in the 92 election. He did the smakdown on Fulani when she was trying to Jesse-fy a particular forum. I think blacks saw it as genuine and not racist and it cost him not one vote.

Too many Republicans are afraid to spell it out. Black folk have this little game where if they smell a shy whitie, they'll grandstand. If white flinches, he must be flinching for a reason. You see this ALL THE TIME in all settings - particularly political. If you know you are right and treat others exactly as you would wish to treated you'll go far.

Think it as if your own brother of sister started popping off like an idiot. Would you back up and give them room? Hell no. You'd light 'em up.

This is all conjecture as I'm just some white dude. But I've been an inner city Republican for a long time and live by the above creed and it goes a long way for me.

There are a lot of very moral issues that are close to blacks and you have to hammer home a moral message. Republicans have these issues, they've just got to USE them.

How do you pander to any group of voters without being unfair to the remainder of voters? If you insist on principle and fairness to all you will attract more voters from the whole electorate. Black voters I have talked to are just as disgusted with the moral decline of our country as the majority is.

School vouchers are popular but Bush caved and eliminated this positive step to gain support from all voters. Treating groups and races as special interests insult them instead of befriending them. Principle and fairness without pandering will win out over BS every time.

I am so sick of hearing what the GOP needs to do to "get" the "Black vote." And how the "Black vote" will be for the Democrats if something is or isn't done that aids only them. Are they really interested in the entire country benifiting along with themselves or just themselves. If it is really that selfish, why are we really worried about it? The GOP has done without the "Black vote" for quite some time and even if they do everything on the ever-expanding list, they will still vote Dem. The GOP needs to do things that preserve the entire nation (That includes the so called "Black Voters") regardless of what the press thinks is important. The people who actually vote ore people who want to do what is best for the counrty at least for the most part. Bush needs to do what is best for the entire counrty and not just one group or another. If the so called "Black Leaders" would take an unbiased look at history and the policies of our current President, they could see that the "Black Vote" is misplaced. However, their greed for power and ease of manipulation leave the "Black People" just where they are and no further.
Bush cannot lose something he doesn't have. Bush should stick to the no child left behind for the sake of American children not just to benefit one group or another. We need to rebuild our educational system from the ground up and he doesn't have enought support top do that... yet.

What is it going to take to get "Black Voters" to see themselves as American Voters?
