I wish they had explained how the Russians hope to get to the lake and withdraw a sample without tainting it. Perhaps they've given up that aspect, and are just hoping to find something.

I haven't allowed Pepsi in my home since they hired Comrade Geraldine Ferraro to do an ad.

If Russian researchers in Antarctica succeed in drilling through the final 396 feet of nearly 2-1/2 miles of ice to reach an ancient, unexplored lake underneath, scientists at NASA warn the hole could cause an eruption that spews water thousands of feet into the air.

Now I'll admit, I aint no scientist, but I'll bet that the water freezes in that 2 1/2 mile hole before it "spews water thousands of feet into the air."

Do you think we can convince Fox to host the Democrap prez candidate debate there?

Not likely. The Russians that are present are WAY too right-wing for the democraps.

I wonder how good an idea it is to release 15 million-year-old microbes thousands of feet into the atmosphere.

Yep. Perhaps I've seen too many X-files episodes, but I'm wondering if there's anything in there that doesn't need to be let out.......

That was pretty much the first thought that crossed my mind too, but they don't seem too concerned.

They are scientists. They clone sheep. They cross-polinate species. They cross-transplant organs--and organisms. All just to see what might happen. One day they will release a Pandora's Box, assuming they haven't already.

In the Arthur Clarke novel "2010" the Chinese are trying to do this on Eruopa and get eaten by one of the inhabitants.

Liberals call this the "precautionary principle", their excuse for shutting down not only all forms of industry, but now scientific research as well. For the future of the human species as a whole, I'm glad that the Asians still have a spirit of adventure.

No, the "plant" grows toward the light poles and ship due to its attraction to the lights. It didn't eat the people! :)

"...pop like a can of warm mountin dew in th back of a black suv in a houston parking lot. "

I like the way every other windshield in Houston has a nice horizontal crack. I always chuckle when I hear people here(Va and PA) complain about how hot it is. They have no idea what hot really is. The Euro's are now experiencing May Houston weather.

At the Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft seems the appropriate reference material here, though I wonder if a shoggoth can fit through a 4 inch hole?

Ummm, am I missing something here? Whaddya think its like when we currently drill into oil and gas reservoirs 15,000 feet below the surface of the earth and is, in turn, 5,000 feet below the surface of the ocean? NOW THAT'S PRESSURE!!

The spindletop days are over people! This shouldn't be an issue!
