Whats his problem? Even if you don’t believe, you still get the holiday!
Is he saying that he doesn’t want to get Christmas off from work? Probably not. He can use that day for whatever purpose he wants. There. Equality. Now, go home and stop bothering the rest of us.

I thought of numerous secular holidays, but I would not put Independence Day among them.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
I think the best expression for an atheist holiday, aside from April Fools’ Day, would be the muddled mess that was the old pagan May Day.
Technically, in the US, May 1st is “Loyalty Day”, and “Law Day”, though nobody calls it that.

But this was done in rejection of communist “International Workers’ Day”. However, since then, May 1st could be called “Soreheads Day”, used by Mexicans to protest immigration policy; labor unions to protest anything and everything; Occupy-Obamanites, to protest capitalism and the unwillingness of others to give them free stuff.
All told, still just as inconsequential as dancing around a Maypole before dashing off into the woods for a quick copulation in honor of nebulous fertility gods.
New Years is a good secular holiday.

This is beginning to look like some kind of liberal concerted effort conspirancy against us East Texas hayseeds. The atheists trying to shut down the Divinty Scene in Athens, Ditzy Hannah protesting “the” pipeline in Wood County, some nutty self-proclaimed “preacher” suing against In God We Trust in Wood County, now this. Guess these idiots never heard of “Don’t Mess With Texas”, so far they are batting 0.
