In other words, it was a parable.
That’s what parables do
Depends...big diff between PCUSA and PCA America)
Well, the parable was a dig at the Pharisees, but I don’t believe he’s one of those either.
Leaves people confused about what they actually heard.
When it comes to the Old Testament it gets even worse.
God: "I accept your terms".
He ripped in? Man, that takes real balls. Ripping in! I have always been afraid to rip in.
HIS first miracle was a duzzy.
I struggled a bit when I first heard this Gospel portion. I was indignant that the guy got thrown out of the feast because he wasn’t properly dressed. It didn’t seem fair to me, and my self-righteous 7-year-old mind.
I asked my Dad about it, and he explained it to me. The “Wedding Feast” is an ALLEGORY of the Kingdom of God. The original people on the guest list were the Chosen People of God, from whom Messiah was to come, and be rejected by His own People.
The alternate guests were the Gentiles, invited into the Kingdom after the Original Invitees refused.
The “Wedding Garment” is the “Robe of Righteousness” provided by the Host of the Feast and was offered free of charge to all in order to enter. This “Wedding Garment”, provided by Jesus on the Cross, is the only Way into the Feast.
So the guy without one had been offered the Garment, and must have refused it, but wanted to enter the Kingdom anyway.
A parallel story is one where Jesus compares Himself to a Gate to a Sheep pen. Anyone who tries to get in by jumping over the wall or sneaking under the fence is defined as a THIEF.
My Dad didn’t go to College, but he was a Good Christian Man. He came to Christ somewhere between the landing craft and the beach at Iwo Jima, or so he told me.
Anyone who has been to Seminary or Bible College (or even a good Sunday School!) knows that Jesus spoke in Parables for a very important reason. While making His meaning plain to ordinary people, his stories caused the highly educated and “religious” people to take offense.
Just like this klown that calls himself a “minister.”
