Weeks. Not days. Woman who picked up had an unpronounceable first name. It went downhill from there. Am I the only white American experiencing this kind of dissonance, with gargantuan demand and scarce supply? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, citing the ongoing government shutdown, urged President Donald Trump in a letter Wednesday to either reschedule his State of the Union address set for later this month or to deliver it in writing to Congress. Pelosi, D-Calif., in her letter noted "security concerns" related to the partial shutdown's effect on the U.S. Secret Service, which provides security for the president's annual in-person address to a joint session of Congress. "Both the U.S. Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security have not been funded for 26 days now — with critical departments hamstrung by furloughs," wrote...

Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday asked President Donald Trump to reschedule his State of the Union address — or deliver it in writing — as long as the government remains shut down. "Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29th," Pelosi wrote in a letter to Trump.

BISMARCK – Republican leaders in the North Dakota House of Representatives said they canceled the opening prayer by a Muslim on Ash Wednesday because some members thought it was more appropriate to have a Christian deliver the invocation. Dr. Nadim Koleilat, board president of the Bismarck Muslim Community Center, ended up giving the invocation in the Senate instead of the House. Comments made on the District 24 Republicans’ Facebook page – including one posted Monday that called Koleilat’s planned appearances in the House on Wednesday and in the Senate next week “political correctness at its worst” – were brought to...
