“As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, ‘Follow Me!’ And he got up and followed Him” (Matthew 9:9). Matthew’s gospel has already established that Jesus offered His forgiveness to the least-loved outcasts of society. It seems evident from the context of this verse that one of those outcasts, Matthew the tax collector (this gospel’s author), had been under real conviction of sin and spiritual need. He would have been very aware of Jesus’ ministry in and around Capernaum, even though he might not have...

Get ready for my confession. I'm white, male and Republican. I dislike the government. I believe in the Constitution. I demand a wall to secure our border. But I'm just getting started. I've watched violent TV shows and movies for my whole life. I don't watch unless it features cops versus bad guys, the military or the mafia. And I've owned guns for self-defense my entire adult life. I have a concealed weapon permit. I'm packing right now. I love to go shooting ... with my kids. I took my daughter shooting to celebrate her graduation from Harvard. We shot...

WASHINGTON - Democrats running for president on promises to slow climate change are asking young people to do more than just vote for them. Many White House hopefuls are laying out plans to put teenagers and 20-somethings to work guarding the country against the worst effects of global warming. Core to a number of Democrats' climate plans is the creation of a "climate corps." Akin to the Peace Corps launched in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy as a soft-power check against Russia, a climate-focused national service program would tackle what many presidential candidates see as this generation's greatest challenge...

Anger can be a good thing, it lets you know what is really important in life. If something makes you angry it means you care about it. But in the last few years, anger has become a commodity in politics, and the market has been flooded with counterfeits. Virtue signaling – the phony outrage that fuels campaigns and TV ratings – is that counterfeit, and it’s funding the Democratic Party machine. It needs to be destroyed. Not a single speech or statement delivered this week by a Democrat was sincere. The indignation against the President, the accusations of Donald Trump...

Search for “climate change” on YouTube and before long you’ll likely find a video that denies it exists. In fact, when it comes to shaping the online conversation around climate change, a new study suggests that deniers and conspiracy theorists might hold an edge over those believing in science. Researchers found evidence that most YouTube videos relating to climate change oppose the scientific consensus that it’s primarily caused by human activities. The study highlights the key role of social media use in the spread of scientific misinformation. And it suggests scientists and those who support them need to be more...

GUATEMALA CITY — About 45 minutes before descent, the guards went up and down the aisle unshackling the passengers, and the mood in the cabin began to lighten. A mother with a boy near the front was still crying, but they were the only family aboard the flight. Nearly all the other 93 deportees were men, and they began joking and talking excitedly. Soon Guatemalan territory appeared below, misty and green. A cheer rose. “You see? They’re smiling!” said Matt Albence, the acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who spends a great deal of time defending his agency’s...
