House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday accused billionaire President Donald Trump of not understanding the financial burden of the government shutdown on federal workers. "He thinks maybe they could just ask their father for more money," Pelosi said. "But they can't."

Undercover journalist James O'Keefe's Project Veritas released a second round of secretly recorded video clips Tuesday documenting CNN's political bias, this time asserting the network is favoring Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts over other 2020 Democratic presidential candidates. The videos feature former CNN satellite uplink technician Cary Poarch, who says he recently agreed to wear a hidden camera "to expose the bias" at the network. (snip) Meanwhile, CNN's senior justice correspondent, Evan Perez, is captured on video saying frontrunner Joe Biden "has a problem, because his son was trading in his name." "It looks bad, it smells bad. ... How...

Three employees at a North Carolina assisted living facility were arrested after police said they ran a fight club with elderly residents with dementia battling it out against each other. The women were accused in court documents of watching, filming and even encouraging a fight between a 70-year-old woman and a 73-year-old woman at the Danby House assisted living and memory-care facility in Winston-Salem, Fox 8 High Point and other local media reported.

A report commissioned by the UK government's official environmental advisers is calling to ban frequent flyer reward schemes to discourage people from traveling by air. **SNIP** The report has also proposed an "air miles levy" to target frequent flyers while protecting those who don't travel as much or travel shorter distances. By placing the levies on frequent flyers, rather than a flat fuel tax, those who don't fly as often would in theory not be disproportionately affected. "Aviation has so far enjoyed generous tax treatment despite a large proportion of flights being taken by a small, wealthy segment of the...

Twitter will restrict how users can interact with tweets from world leaders who violate its rules. The social media company led by CEO Jack Dorsey said in a Tuesday blog post that it will not allow users to like, reply, share or retweet offending tweets, but it will let users quote-tweet them so they can still express their own opinions. The San Francisco-based company has faced a backlash from critics over its hateful conduct and content moderation policies. Some organizations and users believe it should subject the tweets of leaders like President Trump to the same standards as everyone else...

While coastal communities in New England are still recovering from costly beach erosion due to last week's coastal storm, another one could be on the way this week -- and it's expected to intensify rapidly. Some models are even suggesting this possible nor'easter could strengthen so quickly it could become a "bomb cyclone," which generally is marked by a pressure drop of 24 millibars (a unit of pressure) within 24 hours. Winds could reach tropical storm-force (39 mph+) with even higher gusts by Wednesday

It was tech giant Twitter that let the phrase "Die Trump" trend overseas. It was Twitter from which Disney walked away because of its "nastiness extraordinary." It is Twitter that has been accused countless times of shadowbanning or otherwise suppressing the speech of conservatives. (snip) But things may be changing as a result of a judge's decision to allow a $250 million lawsuit brought by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., against Twitter to go forward. The Federalist reported the case soon could be a "nightmare" for the company. Judge John Marshall, who was assigned the case in Virginia, is considering a...

A hot, molten Earth would be around 5% larger than its solid counterpart. The difference between molten and solid rocky planets is important for the search of Earth-like worlds beyond our Solar System and the understanding of Earth itself. Rocky exoplanets that are around Earth-size are comparatively small, which makes them incredibly difficult to detect and characterise using telescopes. What are the optimal conditions to find such small planets that linger in the darkness? ... In the characterization of exoplanets outside our solar system and the search for potentially habitable worlds, researchers at the University of Bern are among the...

The issue of gay rights and recognition and acceptance of the LGBTQ community has moved at warp speed—in political terms anyway—this past decade. “I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage,” said the candidate Barack Obama in 2008. At Thursday night’s nationally televised forum on LGBTQ rights, candidate Beto O’Rourke showed how far, and how quickly, the Democratic Party has moved. The former Texas congressman caused quite a stir when he said he would support revoking the tax-exempt status of religious institutions—colleges, churches, and charities—if they opposed same-sex marriage. (snip)...

The Kurds should thank the short-sighted strategists of the DNC for Turkish aggression. Hong Kong residents are also paying for the short-sighted policies of the American Left, who, for the past three years, have been trying to expel the legally elected president from the White House. Their (untrue) signal that Trump is about to be overthrown has been heard both in Beijing and in Ankara. But Turkey made a serious mistake – they attacked civilians. Of course, television footage of these crimes and further bullying of civilians by Turkish troops in Northern Syria cannot be compared with what the Russian...

Speaker Nancy Pelosi continued to stand firm Tuesday, insisting she will not stage a vote on the House floor to officially launch an impeachment inquiry into President Trump. Trump and his Republican allies have been pressuring Pelosi to hold a formal vote to begin the investigation — a move they believe would grant them more power and influence in the process, including the ability to call and subpoena their own witnesses. Last month, Pelosi formally launched an impeachment inquiry into Trump after months of resisting calls from her caucus to do so, but she has faced pressure to hold an...

1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: 2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. 3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. 4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying,...

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she will make public Tuesday evening her party's plans on whether the House will take a formal vote to authorize the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump that she announced last month. When asked at a news conference Tuesday if she will hold a full House floor vote on authorizing the inquiry -- as Republicans have called on her to do -- Pelosi told reporters, "I'll be talking about that later today after I meet with my colleagues."

It used to be that ordering household items from Amazon Prime meant stocking up. Many brick and mortar-resistant shoppers relished 48 rolls of toilet paper or 24 cans of cat food arriving at their address in two short days. Until recently, to protect Amazon’s retail margins, Amazon has made it difficult to purchase a single item in the $1-$5 range and also get fast and free shipping – items like a stick of deodorant, a make-up brush or a tube of toothpaste. In September, analysts at Edgewater Research started noticing that Amazon had disabled its add-on program, the system Amazon...

A member of the Portsmouth school board repeatedly asked the court earlier this year to reduce his child support obligations, according to court documents. Part of De’Andre Barnes’ reasoning: His position on the board prevents him from landing some good-paying jobs. “I never said I can’t get a job,” Barnes, 33, explained Friday in Portsmouth Juvenile Domestic Relations Court. “I said it precludes me from certain opportunities.” When asked outside the courtroom how long he’d been unemployed, Barnes said he “wasn’t 100 percent sure.” During a subsequent interview Monday, he said he left the For Our Future Political Action Committee...
