Her color choice was a gracious nod to her Chinese guests: red, while the dominant color of the Chinese flag, also symbolizes prosperity and happiness in Chinese tradition. The dress was designed by the label of Alexander McQueen, a beloved British designer who committed suicide less than a year ago.
