WILLIAMSPORT – A federal judge has recommended dismissal of suits aimed at removing two conservative Republicans from the May primary ballot because of their efforts to overturn the election of President Joe Biden. U.S. Middle District Magistrate Judge William I. Arbuckle on Tuesday refused to certify the suits Jeffrey D. Hill filed seeking to have Doug Mastriano and Scott Perry disqualified. State Sen. Mastriano from Franklin County is running for governor and U.S. Rep. Perry is seeking his sixth term in Congress from the 10th District that includes parts of York, Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties. “Today’s recommendation simply reinforces...

There is good news for Republicans in California’s 48th congressional district. Republican Dana Rohrabacher has just taken a significant lead over Democrat Harley Rouda. Poll: Dana Rohrabacher Takes 9-Point Lead in CA-48, Holds Back ‘Blue Wave’ A new poll released Friday shows incumbent Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher with a nine-point lead over Democrat challenger Harley Rouda with just days to go before the midterm elections on November 6. The poll, conducted by Thomas Partners Strategies, shows Rohrabacher with the support of 50.7% of likely voters in the 48th congressional district, compared to Rouda’s 41.6%. The margin of error is 4.7%.

With the midterm elections just days away, there’s little indication that California is seeing a “blue wave” of Democratic votes, at least in the early returns of vote-by-mail ballots — and in some key races that will help determine control of the House, Republican voter response has been strong. There are still a lot more ballots to come in, cautioned Paul Mitchell, vice president of Political Data Inc., which supplies voter information to a variety of political campaigns. But so far, according to a mail ballot tracker he runs, Republican votes are keeping pace with the number of Democratic ballots....

Recently, the House passed, by an overwhelming margin, a resolution to condemn the Russian Federation for actions considered hostile and aggressive within its sphere of influence, specifically with regard to the politically torn country of Ukraine. Ten Members voted “nay,” myself among them. I wish to explain why I took this unpopular position. Above all, while Vladimir Putin’s government may well have engaged in questionable behavior toward neighboring countries, Resolution 758 was nothing more than gratuitous, needlessly provocative and shortsighted. Moreover, reasonable observers the world over can see it as tantamount to a declaration that Russia is America’s enemy. The...

Once Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist jumped into the 48th Congressional District race, illegal immigration became a standard talking point. With state Sen. John Campbell leading in the contest to replace former Rep. Chris Cox, some potential candidates to fill Campbell's Senate seat -- should it open up -- expect to discuss the immigration issue as part of their campaigns. "As I travel around my district and the Senate district and the state for that matter, it seems to be an issue that is of great importance to the electorate in California," said Huntington Beach Republican Assemblyman Tom Harman, who...

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - Illegal immigration emerged as a critical issue in the race to fill the nation's only vacant House seat, as an anti-immigration activist siphoned off enough votes from the GOP-backed favorite to force a runoff election. State Sen. John Campbell finished with 46 percent of the vote in Tuesday's special election in Southern California's heavily Republican Orange County, but failed to gain the majority needed to avoid a runoff. He will face the top vote-getters from four other parties in the Dec. 6 election. Second-place finisher Marilyn Brewer, a moderate Republican who drew 17 percent of the...

This race to replace former Rep. Christopher Cox, who left Congress in August to become chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, includes 17 candidates – 10 Republicans, four Democrats and three independents – plus two write-ins. If any candidate gets 50 percent plus one vote, that person will automatically become the next House member from the coastal Newport Beach-based district. If not, a general election will be held Dec. 6 and the top vote-getters from each party will be on that ballot. The candidates for this race: Republicans: • Marilyn Brewer • John Campbell • David R. Crouch •...

No mistake, we OWNED that debate. The Republicans had about 35 interns and young staffers flown in from Washington D.C. to cheer for Campbell. John and Ken were not amused. As they pointed out, the paid “political hacks” were inside watching the show while the John and Ken audience was stuck waiting in line outside. Most of them were tossed out. There were a few Campbell supporters waiting in line but they ditched their signs and left. Campbell snuck in though the back. Jim came in through the front, shaking hand with the people in line, and taking pictures. People...

"Minuteman" Jim Gilchrist is my prospective opponent for California's 48th District U.S. House Rep. special election. Does anyone know what his stance is on the Iraq War? I for one firmly support the President and our operations in Iraq. What is Gilchrist's position on the war? Thank you, J. Scott Davis

In my run for Congress (California's 48th District U.S. House Representative), I wish to support a women's right to "equal pay for equal work." This right was put into law with the "Equal Pay Act of 1963." Most women will tell you that they do not possess significant equality of equal pay compared to men doing the same job. I'd like to see the many corporate businesses of the 48th District set an example of gender equity for women.

With elections quickly approaching and controversy growing over the scheduling of one of the votes on a Jewish holiday, Orange County Registrar of Voters Steve Rodermund was placed on administrative leave this week without explanation. "It's a personnel matter," said County Executive Officer Thomas G. Mauk, who relieved Rodermund of his duties on Thursday. snip Rodermund's removal comes a little more than a month before a special primary election scheduled Oct. 4 in the race to fill Christopher Cox's 48th Congressional District seat. The Newport Beach Republican resigned this month to become chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The...
