The anti-gun left has apparently fully embraced that old saying from the late sixties and early seventies: the personal is political. It’s not enough to protest the NRA’s headquarters, call its leaders Nazis and ask how many kids have they killed today in tediously un-original chants. Now they’re attacking their homes and families. National Rifle Association lobbyist Chris Cox says his house was splashed with fake blood — twice. Then, someone made a fake website for his wife’s interior design business, altering images of artwork to show photos of child gun violence victims. Last week, two gun control activists...
  • Adam Winkler: Banning "Assault Rifles" Counterproductive

Adam Winkler is a law professor at UCLA.  He has been reliably for imposing additional gun control laws, but is more "moderate" than many academics on the left.  He has more intellectual honesty than most, and has fairly described the racist roots of gun control in the United States. It is interesting to note that Winkler has been writing about the futility of "assault rifle" bans as early as February of 2015. From the latimes.com: There are approaches to gun control, such as universal background checks and cracking down on rogue gun dealers, that can reduce the daily death...

A New York Times editorial advocates for a new law allowing a secret court to take away citizens' right to own a gun at the discretion of the federal government.Citing the Orlando terror attack that left 50 dead including the shooter and 53 wounded at a gay nightclub, the piece advocates for a "no-buy" list similar to "no-fly" lists. Under the law, suspected terrorists would not be able to buy a gun. In an attempt to ensure the integrity of the lists and preserve due process, the author proposes people only be added to this no-buy list after a secret...
  • Think background checks prevent gun violence? Think again.

To the editor: Adam Winkler claims that we can reduce violent crime by requiring background checks on private gun transfers. This just isn't the case. ("Why banning assault rifles won't reduce gun violence," Opinion, Dec. 11) Indeed, California, Colorado and Oregon — sites of the three most recent mass public shootings — already have such laws in place. The same is true of mass public shootings that have occurred in France, Belgium, Norway, Germany and other European countries. Peer-reviewed research by criminologists and economists consistently shows that background checks don't reduce any form of violent crime. Law-abiding citizens, not gang...
