The unfortunate drama surrounding the collision and sinking of the Ady Gil has finally reached a conclusion. An arbitrator last week ruled that the Sea Shepherd acted “wrongful” in their decision to scuttle the ship and not allow for proper salvage efforts. A former Sea Shepherd activist on Thursday accused the militant conservation group of deliberately sinking one of its own ships as a publicity stunt after a collision with a Japanese whaler. Sea Shepherd announced yesterday that the Ady Gil, formerly known as the EarthRace, was struck by the Japanese fleet while it was dead in the water, slicing off the bow of the craft, and forcing the rescue of the six souls aboard. In fact, Captain Watson was quoted as saying that this event was captured on film, and will show the Japanese ship turned strongly and suddenly, attacking the small boat.
