Johnny Manziel's time with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats was short lived. The quarterback has been traded from the Tiger-Cats to the Montreal Alouettes, the teams announced Sunday. In addition to acquiring Manziel, the Alouettes also received offensive linemen Tony Washington and Landon Rice. In return, the Tiger-Cats got the Alouettes‘ first draft picks in 2020 and 2021, defensive lineman Jamaal Westerman and receiver Chris Williams. The move allows Manziel to reunite with Alouettes‘ head coach Mike Sherman, who recruited him to Texas A&M in 2012. Manziel, who signed with the Tiger-Cats in May, has not taken a regular season snap for...

Michael Sam's CFL career has hit a snag. The Alouettes released a statement regarding Sam Friday evening: "The Montreal Alouettes organization would like to clarify the situation surrounding international defensive end Michael Sam. Friday morning, Michael asked the team a special permission to leave training camp and return home for personal reasons. "With all due respect for Michael Sam, the nature of this decision will remain confidential. "The Montreal Alouettes fully respect Michael Sam's decision and rally around him to offer him all time and support needed. The team has left the door open and Michael is welcome to come...

It was one of the more bizarre scenes one will see in professional sports. The Saskatchewan Roughriders were in full party mode, galloping onto the field to celebrate the franchise’s second Grey Cup win in three seasons after Montreal’s Damon Duval missed a 43-yard field-goal attempt that would have won the game for the heavily-favoured Alouettes. But the Riders’ celebration stopped colder than a Regina winter night when the players suddenly noticed a red flag lying under the goalpost, followed by the announcement that Saskatchewan had lined up with too many men on the field. That gave Duval another shot...

MONTREAL (AP) -- Blitz, the Montreal Alouettes' mascot, received a reprieve - and a stern reprimand - after being given a penalty for pecking an official during a Canadian Football League game. Alouettes head coach Don Matthews wanted the bird mascot cut after drawing a 15-yard penalty for knocking an official on the head during Montreal's 30-10 victory over the Ottawa Renegades on Sunday. Team spokesman Louis-Philippe Dorais said Monday the mascot will keep his job, but will be confined to the sidelines. He didn't reveal the identity of the person in the costume. "He's been given a warning, but...

Alouettes win 90th Grey Cup The Montreal Alouettes defeated the Edmonton Eskimos 25-17 to win the 90th Grey Cup Sunday in a game that featured a slick field and a wild ending. The Als survived an Eskimos touchdown and failed two-point conversion in the game's closing seconds, then, surprisingly ran back the Eskimos on-side kick attempt for the touchdown to seal the win. The last time the Alouettes won the Cup was in 1977 when the routed the Eskimos 41-6. With temperatures hovering around freezing, the field turned slick and both squads struggled to find their footing and move the...
