The animals at the Haifa Zoo were brought in to protect them from missile fire, and to protect the public from the animals in case a rocket slammed into a cage and destroyed it, thus releasing the animal. Zoo keepers are having to take French lessons to communicate with some baboons that have been brought from Paris. Staff at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park near Hythe, Kent, soon realised the animals were baffled by English. Veronica Chrisp, the marketing manager said: "Our keepers quickly had to learn some basic French commands as that is all the baboons have ever heard. "If we speak English they just look bemused. Obviously, they don't understand the word as such, but it's the sound they recognise."

ABC has been running a promo ad on my local radio station (MA) for a new TV show called "It's All Relative". The show airs this Wed. night, 10/1/03. Since I'm Irish Catholic and a Republican, I find this ad extremely offensive because it describes one of the sets of parents as "Irish Catholic Republican Baboons". Imagine if ABC described the parents as: "Jewish Democrat Jackasses", "Moslem Democrat Camels", or "Protestant Democrat Mules".....that would be viewed as and insult politically incorrect! But they can get away with insulting the Irish, Catholics and Republicans. Has anyone else heard this ad? I...

A horrific venereal disease is preying on baboons in eastern Africa. An estimated 200 animals have been infected and scientists are scrambling to identify the mystery microbe that is attacking them.
