A new Obama ad that will air statewide in Indiana features Barney Smith. Smith claims to be a lifelong Republican who supports Obama, in part, because he was laid off by Thomson in Marion. He blames GOP policies for his job loss. Smith is best known now for delivering a memorable line during a short speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. “We need a President who puts Barney Smith before Smith Barney,” he said, prompting cheers. As you might expect, the line is in the new commercial. It has more meaning now than when he first delivered it.
