Could this be the end of Monument Syndrome? Across the country, ordinary Americans are rising up in revolt against the old Washington tactic of closing public parks and memorials during selective government “shutdowns” to score political points. Day 4 of shutdown: Vets are going to need wire cutters to visit WWII memorial.The fences/barricades were not wired shut when I was here on Tuesday.

I placed a very polite call to SONCO at their 800 number on the fencing. I was bumped up to a Vice President, it might have been the President, of the company. The Barrycades were PURCHASED by the Park service years ago. They are NOT BEING RENTED from SONCO. They are not happy with the situation and have been getting calls and emails. I would have to say SONCO gets a pass on this one. They are not involved and not happy.

House Republicans are seizing the Obama administration’s decision to barricade the open-air World War II memorial in Washington as a potent political weapon in their shutdown showdown with the president.
