<p>U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink's medical condition remained unchanged today, according to a Democratic Party official.</p> <p>Mink has been in the intensive care unit at Straub Clinic and Hospital since Sept. 1 with viral pneumonia brought on by a case of chicken pox. Her family has withheld information on her exact medical condition and her staff has only said Mink is "serious but stable."</p>

<p>With secrecy still surrounding the health of U.S. Rep Patsy Mink, her Republican challenger in the general elections plans to back off the issue this week, while waiting to hear whether she plans to continue her campaign for a 13th term.</p>

<p>Republican congressional candidate Bob McDermott today said the public has a right to know the medical condition of U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink, who has been hospitalized for pneumonia.</p> <p>"When you're running for Congress, this is a high federal office," McDermott said. "I can tell you as a public figure ... you don't have that much privacy. We have limited privacy. So I am asking that they be forthcoming with her medical condition. Is she unconscious? She hasn't released a statement. Is she able to speak? Can she walk on her own? I think these are all valid questions that the voters before the primary election have a right to know."</p>
