Republican leaders could name the chair of a select committee tasked with investigating the 2012 Benghazi attacks as early as Monday, Fox News has learned. A senior House source with direct knowledge of the development of the committee indicated that Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., is likely to be named chairman of the panel. Gowdy's name was floated heavily late last week. Other names mentioned for the job by Capitol Hill insiders include Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas; Rep. Mike Turner R-Ohio; Rep. John Mica R-Fla.; Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wis.; and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla.

SNIPSoon after the attacks, Virginia Congressman Frank Wolf introduced HR-36, a bill to create a House Select Committee to investigate the Benghazi attacks. Under Wolf’s bill, the special committee would have subpoena power and could force the issue of testimony and access to documents. If it did, we might yet see Obama exercise Executive Privilege just as he did in the “Fast and Furious” scandal. The bill has 177 sponsors, almost enough to pass the House today. The only problem is that House Speaker John Boehner won’t allow the bill to come to the floor. He has repeatedly blocked it...

We have been fortunate to receive a copy of a letter by Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va) that has been issued to Speaker of the House John Boehner. You can read it here. I was honored to affix my name to a letter from the family members of Sean Smith and Ty Woods and countless other retired senior military officers and conservatives demanding a House select committee on Benghazi.

House Speaker John Boehner is facing mounting pressure to create a special or select committee to investigate the Benghazi terror attacks in which four Americans were killed. The House resolution to form a special committee now has at least 139 co-sponsors who are putting Boehner in the difficult position of leading efforts to get the White House to release emails on Benghazi-gate but not agreeing to the demands of many rank-and-file Republicans.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has not yet acted on calls from within his own party to form select committees to uncover more information on the attack which killed four Americans in Benghazi, Libya in 2012. Lawmakers on Capitol Hill have suggested the formation of select committees since November 2012, one month after the assault which killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other State Department employees. Such select committees could provide a channel for Benghazi survivors to come forward and tell their stories to Congress without legal repercussions from the federal government. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told USA Today on...
