Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is living every comic book fan's dream. The newly elected US congresswoman stars as a sassy superhero in an upcoming comic book titled, "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force: New Party Who Dis?" In one of the just-released book covers, Ocasio-Cortez stands over a knocked-out Republican elephant while a Democrat donkey looks on nervously in the background. Her superhero outfit is a white pantsuit, and her gadget is a smartphone, through which she wields her 3.2 million Twitter followers. Another cover shows her in a Wonder Woman-like outfit.

Our children’s lives are on the line. Not a single elected official, Democrat OR Republican, should accept money from fossil fuel corporations. Americans are dying because of a government too coward to save the planet. It’s wrong. And we will need a Green New Deal to survive.

Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez was quick to pronounce young democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez the "future" of his party following her surprising primary win in June. Since that time, she's offered "pants on fire" takes about the U.S. unemployment rate, supported and then immediately retracted that support for a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians, confessed to not being an "expert" on geopolitics after calling the Israeli military massacrers, and fretted about "black sites" run by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. And that's after less than a month!

The progressive wing of the Democrat Party made its presence known in the 2016 presidential race with the campaign of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. His socialist platform of free health care, free college, higher minimum wages and the like made him a popular choice of progressives, a fancy name for Democrats who have no real concept of how economics work.
