  • Trying to Remember a Movie

    04/26/2020 3:31:12 PM PDT · by NorseWood · 41 replies
Back in the late 1960's or 1970's there was a movie about a family that went into a bomb shelter because of a nuclear attack. Months later the father went outside and discovered that it was all a hoax. There was no nuclear fallout. It was all about the power of fear. Exchange the bomb shelter for a face mask. Does anyone remember the title of the movie? Maybe it was a Twilight Zone episode?

A Wisconsin family who had been living in their home for over a decade, knew the whole time that there was a hidden metal door in the ground in the backyard, but somehow were never tempted to open it and see what was inside or where it led to. Until one day, after all these years, they decided to crack open the metal hatch and discover the mystery behind the door. The Zwick family were stunned to find out that this was the entrance to a Cold War-era fallout shelter buried right there, in their backyard. A ladder led them...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)BOUNTIFUL -- It sits in the parking lot of the Emergency Essentials store in Bountiful, all but daring you not to stop and stare. The massive, bright yellow, corrugated metal section of pipeline is 10 feet across and thrice that length, with a few smaller sections of pipe sticking out at various angles. And just in case that's not enough of a draw for the terminally incurious, there's even a banner on the side -- at least there was until the last Bountiful windstorm -- that reads "Tour a 'Bomb Shelter' ... Atlas Survival Shelters." Bomb shelter? Trust us, you...

With the fear of meteor crashes rising, people looking for cover might just be in luck. A concrete bomb shelter in South Florida is going up for sale for a cool $499,500, for anyone looking for a place to prepare for the apocalypse. The structure was built during the Cold War, to 'withstand the big blast,' the real estate agent handling the sale told the Zillow real estate blog.

No, a bunker will not save you from the apocalypse Everybody talks about the apocalypse, but almost nobody actually prepares for it. But let's say you're one of the few visionaries who actually plans for every eventuality. You've been stashing your supplies. You've built a personal bunker, or you've purchased your own spot in a communal "survival suite." When the apocalypse finally comes — possibly later this year — will you really survive if you're locked inside a bunker? (Answer: No.) Protecting against any 2012 scenario A thriving industry exists to offer structures that will defend against a variety of...

If it's a quiet life you are after or you are worried about the end of the world, this underground bunker could be answer to your dreams. It's nuclear and biochemically bomb proof and has enough room for an army. In fact, this Cold War missile silo was once owned by the U.S. military. Today the 185-acre site which cost $18 million to build back in the Fifties is for sale at $1.72 million (£1.1m). It is owned by cousins and business partners Bruce Francisco and Gregory Gibbons who bought the base in Saranac, upstate New York, in 1991 and...
  • Moscow arms against nuclear attack

Nearly 5,000 new emergency bomb shelters will be built in Moscow by 2012 to save people in case of potential attacks. In the last 20 years, the area of air-raid defense has been developed little, and the existing shelters have become outdated. Moreover, they are located mostly in the city center, which makes densely populated Moscow outskirts especially vulnerable in the event of a nuclear attack In order to resolve the issue, the city has given architects a task to construct a typical model of an easy-to-build shelter that will be located all over the city 10 to 15 meters...

Self-preservation is something that most humans take quite seriously, and that a few take to extremes. Faced with the real or imagined threat of attacks levied by nuclear, biological, and chemical weaponry, some people opt to head 25 feet underground, surrounded by concrete and complex air-filtration systems, surviving off rations and waiting, so to speak, for the end of the world. That’s the subject of Richard Ross’s Waiting for the End of the World, originally published by Princeton Architectural Press in 2004, for which Ross spent five years traveling over three continents, photographing the interiors of bomb shelters. “I’m a child...

The economy's growth has never before been so driven by real estate. Now that engine is sputtering. Jiany Massad isn't quite ready to throw in the towel on his fledgling career as a Miami real-estate tycoon. But if the local housing market continues to head south, the 30-year-old real-estate broker is already making alternate plans. "I might restart my old business," he says of a home decorating company that specialized in high-end window treatments. "At least it's real-estate-related." With home sales down by nearly a third in Florida last quarter, thousands of those who hoped to cash in on the...
  • The Difference Between Religion And Christianity In America

    08/20/2006 6:32:59 PM PDT · by A Blind Man Who Can See · 24 replies · 1,405+ views
When Jesus was living, he did not align himself with the Jewish religious parties, then called Saducees and Pharisees, nor the secular authorities: King Herod and Rome. He obeyed the Mosaic law and even paid tribute. He told Nicodemus, an old man that he had to be born again to be saved. Jesus meant born spiritually. Jesus preached that this spiritual new baby would be then, dead to the world, living in the world but not of it. He pointed out that worrying about the future was not what a Christian would be doing because tomorrow has enough worries to...

This is different. This post isn't about what I have gleemed from some 'news-source' today. This post is about HOW do you convince your friends, your family .. your loved ones that "There Is A Crisis" in America and that this crisis continues to grow, each and every day..regardless of whether they believe it or not! The only thing that any of them believe in is: Our Government. I would like to give you the whole story, how I have tried and finally given up, given up in trying to convince my family, my loved ones that we are at...

Chinese dive into bomb shelters to escape the heatTue Jun 21, 9:26 AM ET China is opening up old bomb shelters in central Chongqing so people can cool off from the summer heat, Xinhua news agency said on Tuesday. The municipal government had decided to open 24 cool, underground air-raid shelters, most of which were built in the 1960s and 1970s, this week, a local official was quoted as saying. "A heat wave with high humidity has hit Chongqing since last week, making life unbearable to residents, many of whom only have electric or palm-leaf fans to cool off," Xinhua...

Has anyone built a bomb shelter since September 11th? I have not seen much on this subject in the mainstream media. And from reading Peggy Noonan this week we all SHOULD be thinking of building one OR 2 BOMB SHELTERS. I wonder if Streisand had one built? I'd bet the old liberal spewer did. Thanks in advance for any comments about this subject.
