Longest Drug Tunnel Under U.S.-Mexico Border Unearthed I first interviewed Dave Stoddard in 2006. U.S. authorities seized another cross-border tunnel, this time in San Diego, just weeks after a similar tunnel was uncovered in Calexico, Calif., a two-hour drive to the east. The 874-yard-long tunnel was uncovered, on Wednesday, after a months-long investigation, authorities said. The tunnel was equipped with a rail system, lighting, a ventilation system, and even a commercial elevator on the Mexico-side that could fit up to ten people, authorities said. Laura Duffy, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California, said the tunnel was “a bit ingenuous” and “completely different” than any of the tunnels her office had seen before....

U.S. federal agents have uncovered two drug-smuggling tunnels underneath the U.S.-Mexico border, both surfacing in San Diego-area warehouses and equipped with rail systems for moving contraband, officials said on Friday. The discovery led to the arrest of a 73-year-old woman accused of running one of the warehouses connected to a drug smuggling operation, according to a joint news release by four federal agencies.

Two incomplete tunnels were discovered along the U.S.-Mexico border in what authorities described as a failed attempt to sneak people into the U.S. illegally. Each tunnel was about 3 feet wide, 3 feet high and 5 feet underground, said Frank Marwood, assistant special agent in charge of investigations at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in San Diego. They were about 44 yards apart, near San Diego's Otay Mesa border crossing. The passages, discovered Wednesday in a joint effort by U.S. and Mexican authorities, are among dozens found along the border in recent years, many clustered around San Diego and Nogales,...
