  • Newly appointed lesbian Mass. Supreme Court Judge speaks at fundraiser for radical gay group

Two days after being formally confirmed to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, Judge Barbara Lenk (an "out" lesbian activist) was a featured speaker at a fundraiser for the radical Massachusetts LGBTQ ("Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer") Bar Association. The Massachusetts Code of Judicial Conduct forbids judges from being a speaker at an organization's fundraising event. Lenk's participation that evening was a clear -- and arrogant -- public violation of that Code. (A similar situation occurred when Justice Margaret Marshall was keynote speaker at the group's 1999 dinner. MassResistance--then Article 8 Alliance--Massachusetts News, and others brought this up as a...

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign said Tuesday that he will not sign a conservative Iowa Christian group's far-reaching pledge opposing gay marriage, making him the first Republican presidential candidate to reject it. Two of Romney's rivals for the Republican nomination, Minnesota Rep. Michelle Bachmann and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, have signed the The...

In late spring 2005, Mitt Romney gathered with a dozen top policy and political advisers in a conference room near the governor’s suite on the third floor of the State House. For two years, they had grappled with the abstruse complexities of health care reform, sifting data, evaluating input from experts, and testing theories to craft a plan that would expand coverage to nearly everyone in the state and not break the bank. This was a bold move for a first-term Republican governor, some of whose more conservative advisers doubted the wisdom of a foray deep into policy turf long...
  • Marriage Amendment Won't Stop Homosexual Marriage, Only Slow it Down

We can't stop homosexual "marriage" with a Marriage Amendment. This isn't pessimism, it's reality. Moreover, I am not going the route of libertarian-infatuated Glenn Beck and giving up, or conceding the point that this whole debate is irrelevant. However, It has become clear in recent months that feminist proponents of homosexual "marriage" in America aren't about to let a little thing called a Constitutional Amendment slow down their assault upon the world as God made it. Suppose we pass this Vitter sponsored Marriage Amendment (HJ 56): SECTION 1. Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of...

EVERYONE’S QUICK to blame the alien,’’ said Aeschylus a couple of millennia ago, and you might lose your citizenship rights in Ancient Greece if you called an Athenean official a Scythian. Nativism and xenophobia had their uses in early societies when it was necessary for survival to keep the cohesion of clan, tribe, or city state. The to-be-feared “other’’ lived just over the next hill, and would be tempted to come in the night to plunder and rape unless the group stuck together. But a couple of millennia on, if there is anything to the concept of American exceptionalism, it...

If you’re a conservative activist or major Republican donor, you have some interesting social options in front of you this month. Tea or cocktails? A small-government rally or a fundraiser for same-sex marriage? Pack yourself in with the grass roots at a mass meeting or rub shoulders with the legal elite in a posh drawing room? But more is at stake than options on a menu of social gatherings. With the same tension that has existed in past efforts by some GOP elites to play down social issues or envelop them in a “Big Tent” — but with far more...
