    Associated Press ^ | March 21, 2019 | Emily Wagster Pettus
Gov. Phil Bryant says he’s not worried about lawsuits as Mississippi prepares to enact one of the strictest abortion laws in the nation. The Republican governor is scheduled to sign a bill Thursday to outlaw most abortions once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, about six weeks into pregnancy. The New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights calls it “blatantly unconstitutional” and says it will sue Mississippi to try to block the law from taking effect on July 1. Mississippi is one of several states considering similar bills this year. Abortion opponents are emboldened by new conservatives on the Supreme Court...

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant joined 15 other Republican leaders across the country in signing a brief that asks the U.S. Supreme Court to rule that the 1964 Civil Rights Act does not protect transgender people and that employers have the right to fire them for their gender identity. #The amicus brief comes after lawyers from the Alliance Defending Freedom asked the Supreme Court to hear an appeal of a ruling by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. In the ruling, the court decided a Michigan employer—a devout Christian—violated an employee's Title VII protections by firing her after she disclosed...

It was a cold, solemn day on the Texas ranch. A biting, prairie wind was staved off with a thick, fur coat wrapped around an American music icon. Former President Lyndon B. Johnson had said before he died that at his burial he wanted the Rev. Billy Graham to pray and Anita Bryant to sing. Bryant, once Miss Oklahoma and a Miss America second runner-up, was known in 1973 as the vivacious spokeswoman for Florida orange juice and the Sunshine State. She nervously tried to get her voice ready to sing for a worldwide satellite television audience at the president’s...

Retired NBA star Kobe Bryant during an interview with outspoken ESPN anchor Jemele Hill weighed in on the Colin Kaepernick protest debate by saying that if he were still playing today he would have joined in on it despite the potential backlash. Bryant said that Kaepernick’s message was a “very simple one” and that people are as entitled to protest peacefully as they are to be upset about those protests. “Yeah, I would have participated in it, for sure. I’m sure I would have gotten some flak for it. That’s fine,” he told Hill. “I think that Colin’s message was...

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant is ready to assist in President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration, but some of his fellow Republicans are less than eager to cooperate. Bryant contends that beefed up enforcement at the federal level can only help states. “The federal law is the federal law,” Bryant told Newsmax while visiting Washington for the National Governors Association winter meeting this weekend. “You see now that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is simply enforcing the federal laws. I like to remind people, if we are going to ignore these laws, they need to tell us what other laws we...

Anthony Bryant was once so enamored with Fidel Castro’s revolution that he felt compelled to hijack his way to Cuba. Upon touching down at José Martí International Airport shortly before dawn, Bryant was certain that he was about to enter what he had dubbed "paradise." "Cuba was creating a true democracy - a place where everyone was equal, where violence against blacks, injustice, and racism were things of the past," Bryant would later recall thinking as he was whisked away by soldiers, whom he expected to escort him to a comfortable hotel. "I had come to Cuba to feel freedom...

Bryant was upset about something ESPN’s Jean-Jacques Taylor wrote in a column and started asking where he was. When Taylor acknowledged Bryant, the two began discussing the story and both men began to yell at each other, according to the Dallas Morning News. When wide receiver Devin Street, who apparently has a locker next to Bryant, gets into the conversation, Taylor reportedly tells Street, “ain’t nobody even talking to you.” The Morning News reports Street and Bryant heard Taylor used the N-word. Bryant began yelling the racial epithet at Taylor and said a reporter shouldn’t say that to a player....

A video highlighting a North Carolina Planned Parenthood founder fails to mention that she founded the center with help from a man connected to eugenics. It begins, “Planned Parenthood Health Systems of Charlotte began in 1969 when Sarah Bryant saw an unmet need.” Now an old woman, Ms. Bryant says that she started the Planned Parenthood center at the urging of well known eugenicist Wallace Kuralt and other business leaders. “then Mr. Art Jones who was a banker and Mr. Wallace Kuralt who was the chairman, head of the county health commission, urged me to start Planned Parenthood. Gov. Phil Bryant said Mississippi should enforce the laws when it comes to immigration. President Barack Obama's executive actions that would implement major changes to the country's immigration policies suffered a major blow after a federal judge ordered Obama's programs halted Tuesday. (SNIP) "I think we should enforce the law," Bryant, a Republican, said. "I think we should join with immigration and enforcement services and say we are going to enforce the law if you are here illegally."

I’ve long been a fan of the adage that the worst thing you can give someone is exactly what they’ve asked for. In the last few days, there has been a minor storm brewing over SB 2161 – the bill in Mississippi designed to address Common Core. The bill passed with overwhelming support in the Mississippi Legislature in an election year. Last week, Governor Phil Bryant had some misgivings about the bill and signaled that he might (might) veto. Wingnut nation piled on both on blogs and in closed door Facebook chat rooms urging him to do that. (SNIP) Of...

Gov. Phil Bryant late Thursday afternoon ended any suspense over whether his signature would go on a Common Core bill supporters said was designed to kill use of the education standards in Mississippi. Bryant disagreed, and Thursday put his veto on Senate Bill 2161, saying the measure did not kill Common Core but merely created a commission to study it. He wants it dead and pledged to continuing seeking its demise. (SNIP) Chris McDaniel, who narrowly lost a runoff bid against Thad Cochran for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination, is chairman of United Conservatives Fund. While commending Bryant for his...

It seems that Michah Grable attacked William McBride.  McBride accessed a firearm, and used it to drive off Grable, but he did not continue to pursue him or to shoot at him.  The case seems to revolve around timing.  Did McBride reasonably believe that he was still under threat?  Did witnesses think so? Both men were arrested.  Grable is out on $4,000 bond, while McBride is still in jail on $20,000 bail required by the court.   From kagstv.com: According to the probable cause statement, Grable was upset with McBride and confronted him in the parking lot of Jesse's Taqueria...

Herzog exercised his right to remain silent during the investigation, which was closed because there was not enough evidence to press charges. A public campaign to change the political leadership is the Left’s corrupt attempt to buy an election victory, a Likud campaign said Saturday. The comments referred to V15, an organization dedicated to bringing political change that is partnered with OneVoice Israel, which works with Israelis and Palestinians to lobby their political leadership to bring about a two-state solution. The Likud said V15’s activities break campaign finance laws, comparing them to the “Barak nonprofits affair,” in which former prime...

VOTE AGAINST HIGHER TAXES MARCH 10TH 2015 (Bryant, Arkansas) The millage tax increase scheduled on March 10th of 4.9 Mills would make the average overall millage rate in Bryant from 37.2 to 42.1 mills. Arkansas already has a 6.5% sales tax, 40.2 cents a gallon on gas, a capital gains tax, & a progressive income tax. Federal taxes, State taxes, local taxes, fees, fines, inflation, and other expenses have increased while pay and benefits have decreased. When police stopped Bushart, he was found with meth, a pipe used to smoke meth and charged with DWI and Disorderly Conduct.
