in one way you are correct. google-analytics does track your information here, but they are doing this at the request of freerepublic. if you view the source code for a page on fr (or have your tech savvy hubby show you), you will see the request to have google-analytics tracking included at the bottom of the code.

this is extremely common on websites, as the reports google provides from this data are very useful to the website operator. there are ways to block this (and other such tracking), if you are bothered by this behavior. it may slightly degrade and/or change how some sites work for you, though. ymmv.

No, this is only sound in your head. Surrender or running is not an option nor is it in any way sound.

not only is leaving the country in ruins, with no working civil apparatus morally wrong, it would be political suicide. placing our soldiers in harms way to remove saddam, only to see him replaced him with a muslim theocracy might be difficult to explain to the american public.

our guys are there and they will continue to be there for a long time.

When Buchannan strong-armed his way into it, took over, took the money, and ran, he effectively destroyed it.

the gop owes buchannan big time for his efforts in destroying the reform party. it would be impossible to elect a republican president if the reform party were still siphoning off 5 percent or more of the gop vote.

Did Norwood ever get another kicking job?

no, he did not. here is a very good story on him and his life post-kick.

fyi, i'm not a bills fan, per se. i just always thought blaming norwood for the loss, while understandable, was unfair.

    Jobs Squeeze for Indian Workers

U.S. companies such as IBM, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Oracle and PeopleSoft are already exploring countries with even cheaper sources of technical labor, says a report from research firm IDC. The new destinations include Romania, Russia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam...

    sourced from this idc report

...IDC warns that Bangalore, India's primary IT hub, may no longer offer the world's best IT outsourcing value; that the infrastructure there is saturated; and wages for skilled workers are being bid up, with many new grads demanding annual salaries of $4,000 (USD) or more -- not only in Bangalore but all over India.

In citing the "$8 million" figure, you are buying into a factual lie that is easily exposed. See my post #32 on this thread. As the saying goes, "Do not believe everything that you read," which is the new motto of the New York Times.

    from the original article.

Bennett likes to be discreet. "He'll usually call a host and let us know when he's coming," says one source. "We can limo him in. He prefers the high-limit room, where he's less likely to be seen and where he can play the $500-a-pull slots. He usually plays very late at night or early in the morning--usually between midnight and 6 a.m." The documents show that in one two-month period, Bennett wired more than $1.4 million to cover losses. His desire for privacy is evident in his customer profile at one casino, which lists as his residence the address for Empower.org (the Web site of Empower America, the non-profit group Bennett co-chairs). Typed across the form are the words: "NO CONTACT AT RES OR BIZ!!!"

the article clearly talks about losses, not money put into play. and the game he plays is slots, which, over any significant duration of time will leave a gambler much poorer than when he started.

and what processor will linux run on? it can't run on the palladium machines. a palladium machine is like the XBOX hardware, I believe there is a $1 million prize out there for someone who can get Linux to run on the XBOX.

there were two challenges, part one was just to get linux to run somehow on the xbox. part two was to get it to run with no hardware modifications. both challenges have been met.

Anyone know anything about the "dirty thirty" that Craddock was supposedly involved in many years ago? A liberal friend is insisting that what Craddock did was just as serious.

    the waco tribune claims

Craddick has no one to blame but himself. He helped write history when he was one of 30 members of the Texas House who disappeared during the 1971 legislative session.

i don't know anything more than what is in that article. any texans remember?

I should add, similar silliness has decided many a Texas race.

i think this was a classic case of rural oklahoma voting with their pocketbook. the cockfighting industry added some extra money to people's bank accounts, in areas where extra money is awfully hard to come by. they voted against the ban, and for the guy who was against the ban.

for what it's worth, there is an injunction against enforcing the ban, although i'm not sure if it's statewide or just a few counties. i believe a dem legislator got it before a judge.

Again, this was my question. Even the newspapers. I don't have Lexus Nexus, but using news.google, and searching on "Braddock" (the name of the Rep that introduced the resolution) this AP piece run in a small Kansas paper, is the ONLY hit I get!

both of the major newspapers, the daily oklahoman (conservative) and the tulsa world (liberal) require registration to view the articles. the world requires a paid subscription for all, the oklahoman expires the free content after a week, i believe.

so google can't even get to the content to archive it. it makes it difficult to blog oklahoma news because of this.

Dem guv, Dem controlled House, and Dem controlled Senate. How did that happen?

the legislature is historically dem. it's trending republican, as the conservatives in the demoncratic party slowly move to the gop, just like in the south, and texas. but it's a mistake to say at the moment, that dems here, particularly in farming or other rural communities, are liberal.

the most recent election for governor was very intersting. largent (r), brad henry (d), and richardson (i) were the major players. richardson garned alot of support with a populist campaign (make these turnpikes free!) eastern oklahoma had a large turnout because of the cockfighting issue on the state ballot.

largent was for the statewide ban. henry was against. rural dems came out for the issue, and voted for henry. urban voters, which overwhelmingly wanted to ban cockfighting, couldn't seem to pull the lever for largent, for whatever reason.

which is why books on computer security discuss this issue before even moving on to the technical aspects of securing whatever os you have.

Uh-huh. Nice try. The only person suggesting it is YOU. And to say otherwise is an outright lie on your part.

two of the three items were supplied by you. i just added the actual, you know, result of the arrests. i'm still waiting for you to defend your premises. your argument is that (residents reported) the crowd was engaging in criminal behavior, and you argued this didn't stop just for the night in question. police found no evidence for your accusations. so are you now saying you believe the residents (premise #1) over the police? why do you hate the police so much?

Every single person who has the audacity to say 1) The police are 100% guilty, 2) The raid was not necessary or justified under any cirumstance, 3) Nobody in the KMart parking lot on Friday and Saturday nights has ever committed a crime there at any time and 4) The people living in the apartment complex surrounding the KMart are liars are nothing but unabashed, unmitigated cop haters who need to be taken to a high crime area (like Houston's Fifth Ward) and left to their own devices with nothing but the clothes on their back

keep digging. maybe you'll cover yourself up eventually. wouldn't it just be easier to admit you made a mistake with this line of argument? everyone here has acknowledged the crowd was a problem. but that didn't justify the police tactics. (and i know you didn't just seriously call free republic a hostile place for law enforcement)

my theory is someone brought their laptop home from work (safe behind the firewalls) and went online without a firewall at home. it's plausible, but i don't know microsoft employee policy (and actual behavior) for using equipement like that.

You just go on saying the people living in the complex are liars.

i'm not saying it. your arguments are. it's not my fault your arguments are poor. you offered no explanation as to why those drunken vandals in the parking lot were not charged. your only response was sarcasm, a particularly ineffective technique when arguing with yourself.

you have stated multiple times that the crowd was guilty of criminal behavior, but there were no charges filed. you continue to support the raid, despite the plain fact that it was a huge screwup and will cost officers their jobs, and taxpayers millions. you can't even generate support for your position on free republic, which has about as friendly an leo crowd as can be found in the general public.
