LOL @ this one...not a surprise due to the fluke and such, but Lampson has reaped the Karma he sowed. I wonder what district in Texas he's going to move to now. Or maybe he'll just pick another office to run for!

Bad luck again Nick...we redistricted you out in '04 and those dern Republicans just keep haunting you...

Bet Ted Poe had a laugh tonight on this one. He has repaid us time and time again as a fabulous congressman and we are so proud he has handily just won his 3RD term!

I wish Poe and his friend Jindal would get more into the national stage. They are so awesome.

Yes, you're right, I would get DUMB silence. I actually can't even find anyone I know around here among my friends that is not voting for Obama. How sad is that?

And these are people that voted for Bush TWICE. They can't even give a good reason for voting for Obama - except they believe the lines that McCain is "more of the same" - they are voting AGAINST the Republican Party.

They also make a game out of making fun of Sarah too...maybe she hits too close to home for some of the young hipsters...she reminds me of a lot of good salt-of-the-earth Texans we have.

Happened to see this trying to find out info on the Texas State Senate races. Guess this shouldn't be surprising, but...yeah, there you go.

They have a beef about Palin too:

"Perhaps the worst mistake McCain made in his campaign for the White House was the choice of the inexperienced and inflammatory Palin as his vice-presidential running mate. Had he selected a moderate, experienced Republican lawmaker such as Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison with a strong appeal to independents, the Chronicle's choice for an endorsement would have been far more difficult." (?)

Oh yes..absolutely...Chrissy wasn’t going to let her talk, then said wait, Andrea’s wanting to say something here. Practically first thing she said!

Hopefully they will replay it later! She actually looked decent tonight too...

Andrea Mitchell on PMSNBC says McCain won...not that she counts...LOL! Thought it was his strongest debate yet, noted the best line of the night re. not Bush.

Chrissy begrudgingly says narrow Obama victory...

It doesn’t matter so much at this point, it obviously all has to end up somewhere! No matter where it “jogs”, or who it misses, it hits someone else.

The people of Houston and Galveston Bay know as well as anyone else on the coast the dangers of living here and many have taken adequate preparations. If you live on the coast, this is just part of how it is and you know it. One has to just accept it or leave.

I have wanted to get out for years, was born here...I’m done with it. It is just NOT worth it to live on the Gulf Coast anymore. So you dodge this one - there’s always next year living in fear again.

I can leave, I’m young, and am planning to in the next year - but my parents can’t until my dad retires. My heart breaks for them, and anyone in any part of the Gulf Coast who has worked all their lives for what they have and sees it all laid on the guillotine each year.

There are many beautiful things about the Gulf Coast but Mother Nature doesn’t seem to like us anymore.

Yeah...but anything that makes the chance higher for the Port Arthur-Beaumont area to flood would be just horrible. Massive devastation of an area that got blasted already so hard with Rita.

My brother stayed in Nederland hoping he was on high enough ground...we got out being slightly in Port Arthur...we’re in North Dallas holed up at a Quality Inn.

I wish they would mention on TV what’s going on down by us. Having trouble getting info with a VERY slow DSL connection here at the hotel. Are there no weather people down there anymore because it’s not doing much? That would be a good thing...

I think the surge is not over the seawall yet, but we are nervous. :/

Hope our trip is as quick and easy! Just heading out...from Nederland...

We live in the area w/ a Port Arthur address, near the mall...police calling all residents saying pretty much, “Get your a** out NOW...!”

Greg Bostwick at KFDM-6 in Beaumont just predicting high possibility of 5-7 ft of water in south Jefferson County below I-10, assuming levee will overtop. Recommending to get out to higher ground.

A lot of people who weren’t leaving here before are now taking off in the morning. We’re headed to Dallas.

    What a pisser...

Same here...pretty much everyone I know around Beaumont-Port Arthur is staying, and Houston too. Friend of mine going to Rice will be riding out his first hurricane on campus, where they’re sheltering a lot of the students...

We live in Nederland, fairly close to Port Arthur, and now local KFDM-6 is trying to scare everybody out by threatening the Port Arthur levee is going to overtop or break and bring Cat 3 type surges due to the sheer size of the storm. I think this is overboard prediction wise, though my parents are getting really nervous.

Best case will be that it doesn’t strengthen at all, no matter it ends up. We can handle the wind, we got through Rita and now have a super new roof so that part is okay - it’s just the water.

I guess Galveston will be flooded with CNN, FOX, and PMSNBC come tomorrow - we’re making predictions on where Geraldo will be screeching from this time. I laughed my butt off during Rita when he was almost got blown out of the Port Arthur Holiday Inn...

So this is pretty much it at this point...Houston has decided not to call mandatory evac? I’m east, near Beaumont, and I know no one is evacuating here after many just did for Gustav and nothing happened.

If it turns, it would be the biggest holy royal clusterf*** you’ve ever seen...would dwarf the Rita evac from hell. It better stay put...and not strengthen...

BTW my niece is getting married in what is supposed to be pretty much when it makes landfall on Sat., with rehearsal night before. I wonder what kind of winds we might get over here as it stands. I kinda wish she’d postpone it!

Tony Snow, what a guy. You will be so greatly missed.

I hope through his struggle many can be motivated to get checked for this horrible disease - get it now, and get it much earlier than 50!!

Tony had such dignity and enthusiasm throughout his illness - I went through a 10 year battle with Crohn's and colitis and finally lost my colon to suspected early cancer. I am thankful I avoided my brush with it, but boy, that operation isn't easy to get over.

His positive attitude and hope were an inspiration to me, and the way he conducted himself and his life professionally and with his familiy will be the legacy he will leave to us all.

You fought the good fight, Tony. Hope you're playing some good tunes up there in Heaven. :)

I'm not sure just how you get part of that elite guard, the sailor from our area is only 19 (!) - it seems he especially applied for that position...will have to look up the article again in our newspaper.

He was before my time too. I've always thought a lot of him.

Love that photo, I know his passing will be difficult for them...

Any great books about President Ford and his life/presidency that you guys can recommend?

Prayers up to you for the difficult morning ahead!

CNN has been having some great coverage with their tilting radar system.

Anderson Cooper and John Zarella have been getting absolutely pummeled in Marco Island, incredible winds, and showing the sea coming up and swallowing the beach.

Miles O'Brien is in Naples, in about the same super nasty conditions as they all go through that back eyewall.

If this is all 90-100 mph winds, god I'm glad I evacuated from Rita here in Port Arthur! As I have read, we recorded 120.
