  • Strong Anti-Roe Nominees Off Table??? (I hope it's not True)

Everyone is ignoring the date. The "moderate" pick has already been awarded to Roberts. So the next one should be even more conservative.

This article is old. Its been a political eternity since then.

    Why post this article now?

Its dated July 14th when I went to the link.

Its been a political eternity since then.

President Bush has made his choices clear that he will not abandon his base, with appointing Roberts. Since Roberts was originally selected to replace O'Connor, as when this article was written. This is way off, and has no current relevance.

  • Chief Justice William Rehnquist just died!

He was a just judge, hopefully he was at peace when he died.

It will be hard to find a worthy replacement. He will be remembered by many.

I hate to do this tonight, when he just passed, but I'm hoping Thomas to CJ, and Justice Janice Rogers Brown, or Estrada as the next SC nominee.

I can't believe on Fox, Estrich was just on and inserted politics already. She said the President is weakened by Katrina, and will have to compromise. She used her platform to blame the President for the hurricane! She was there to talk about Rehnquist, not the hurricane.

I hope the President doesn't give in to the democrats, and especially not McCain, when McCain lofted the loony idea of putting Sandra Day O'Connor as Chief Justice, in order to keep the vacancy at only 1.

But tonight is the time to remember the Chief Justice, and pray for him and his family. He served the country well.

Do you happen to remember the feed? It looks like there are several feeds. They all are short videos. I don't see one though with that.

Sorry for making things difficult, I just want to see it for myself.

Where was the actual story? I'm on dialup so I can't do the video, but I would have to believe there is a story on the site. I can't seem to find it. I've been looking at wdsu.com for a while now, and even browsed the video news but didn't see it.

  • Troops Storm Synagogue In Gaza's Largest Settlement

I felt sorry for the soldiers until today.

Storming a Synagogue is never right. Its never legal. Its never moral. Anyone who follows such orders has committed grave sin, because this was a house of worship.

The soldiers have ripped out doors, thrown out furniture, and demonstrated no respect whatsoever for the Synagogue.

I no longer feel sorry for men who are able to break into a House of Worship. Following orders is not an excuse here.

Not the only one by a long shot. The fact that much of their repairs are done in China is not lost on me.

It would be a different thing if they used rural USA for their outsourcing, where FAA has sufficient oversight.

  • End Looms for Northwest Airlines

    GopherGOPer

The thing is, it will probably be the end of Northwest.

The mechanics will vote for a strike no matter what because a strike vote requires a majority and NWA wants to eliminate more than 50%.

The mechanics not in jeopardy of losing their jobs now will likely come under firing threat next. The airline has been pairing back for years now and those who concede get screwed in the end.

Everyone who has ever done anything to help NWA has gotten screwed in the end.

Minnesota which bailed them out financially in the 90's, got screwed when they made Detroit their main international gateway.

The pilots and flight attendants who bailed them out with pay cuts were still subject to wide spread firings.

The mechanics who have given up pay cuts and half their workforce are being screwed yet again.

Yet last week it was revealed that executives were rewarded $1 million in stock bonuses right as they asked for cuts.

Executives are running the airline to the ground, even screwing the customers who have tried to bail them out. They took away the pillows and the pretzels. Next it will be the pop.

This airline will likely go out of business shortly, there is nothing preventing it. If the mechanics accepted the cuts it would just get the airline a few more months at most.

I think its the execs who are running this airline into the ground, and I can't blame anyone for not wanting to concede just to get screwed later.

English is America's language. All my ancestors who came over had to learn it. Every other European backgrounded person I've met, their ancestors had to learn it.

There was no movement to accept Italian, German, Polish, Norwegian, or Finnish. They had to learn English, there's no reason for current immigrants to not learn English

    Two things,

1.) Why does the author line say Weekly Standard, yet the link goes to CBS?

2.) I find it extremely hard to believe that Rumsfeld is willing to get out of this without winning.

  • Could 8-21 be a “9-11 type” Milestone for the Airline Industry?

    08/07/2005 7:04:38 PM PDT · 9 of 11
    GopherGOPer to TWohlford

NWA does have some great employees.

However, their highest management levels come up short every time.

Lets see, they propose to cut half their mechanics. How many does it take to call a strike? Just 1 more than half. I would bet those losing their jobs would be all in favor of the strike, and I'm sure they have a few friends at least.

NWA has a history of screwing those who support them.

When the airline had financial difficulties in the 90's, Minnesota bailed them out.

When it came time to build a major hub new terminal, they chose Detroit instead of MSP. Detroit has all the new planes and international gateway flights, not MSP.

When the airline struggled lately, flight attendants, pilots and mechanics took deep pay cuts to help right the ship.

Once again NWA decides to screw the very people who gave a lot to try and help.

I'm happy to fly with anyone else. If the customers bail them out now, they'll only be screwed later, just like all those before them who've tried to help.

The 60% figure likely don't realize that Embryonic Stem Cells have produced 0 cures thus far despite over 30 years of death and destructive science.

Adult Stem Cells have proven to be the cure to over 60 distinct diseases. In less than 10 years!

Lets see, 30 years and ZERO cures, while desicrating human bodies after killing them, or SIXTY cures in 10 years from cells willingly volunteered by adults which killed nobody.

If you believe those polls, you probably believe John Kerry and Al Gore were elected President, since the polls all had them winning. Real Americans don't do polls.

I thought that the President was waiting for the ultimate choice to fry the democrats mind. Kathrine Harris. After the 2000 race, and how many dems saw her as the enemy beyond all, it would be excellent to see their heads spin over that.

  • Minn. Government Reaches Brink of Shutdown

    06/30/2005 6:17:09 PM PDT · 12 of 21
    GopherGOPer to 80 Square Miles

Some services were already shut down today.

As for me being a Minnesotan, I do feel sorry for those who will be out of work. However, I think it will be interesting to see how much waste the government can trim off by a shutdown. If the government shutdown every year for 2 months or so just imagine the savings! That's not a huge time, and I'm fairly certain for the most part the state's services would be better off.

The Governor had a winning proposal that gave the Northern tribes casino rights, and also one private casino, in the St. Paul/Minneapolis metro area. Then certain democrats (who are among the State Senate leaders) just happen to be related to one of the key Canterbury Race Track, and they want their own Racino, and no more additional casinos. So then Pawlenty strikes a compromise which makes everyone angry by putting 2 casinos at Canterbury. (This area already has 2 casinos and the track, and the metro was looking to share the wealth.)

I still like the idea of a Caesar's or a Harrah's in the metro, along with a Northern Tribal casino. Then some other communities could also reap the benefits besides the already richer ones.

Boy I hope you're right. I have a sneaking suspicion you may be, at least that's my hope as I read the Kristol article in the other thread.

It kept coming up in my head, what about Estrada? I'd love to see him thrown back into the democrats faces as Frist finally pushes the Constitutional Option.

I wonder if the CDU does get a sizable majority in the elections that they will listen to the will of the people and dump the euro. Well I hope that's what they do. If a party committed themselves to this, they might take an outright majority, instead of having to pander to alliances in order to form a coallition.

Note to self. I thought they were called in for renouncing Islam for a false religion that is the tool of the devil. I don't know where I got this from, but I thought it was something to do with them saying there is a difference between Faiths.

I still don't think they should apologise, but there isn't as much on the line for them. I think I got carried away in my offense during my last post.
