...despite all the pro-amnesty rhetoric in the liberal media, 64 percent of Americans still favor an enforcement-only approach. If we were to have a more balanced media, with more opponents of immigration allowed to speak, this number would possibly jump from 64 to 80 percent.

Instead, the media is spinning the choreographed parades of illegal aliens through the streets of American cities as an indication of general support for amnesty.

It seems that we're going to have de facto amnesty, in the form of a guest-worker program, shoved down our throats by the Senate(after the election, of course). Bush will never sign an enforcement-only bill.

They never had any such thought in mind when they conceived their little ones. (An open borders official announced this last night on CNN's Lou Dobbs.)

What a lie. Funny how the politically correct are allowed to get away with these magical, sweeping statements.

So the MSM will immediately drop that word, as they have 'illegal' and 'alien'.

    They out-Orwell Orwell.

...talked as slowly as possible, using up time with her own lying agenda despite Dobb's attempts to get her to answer questions.

That's a Marxist technique employed by a lot of liberals and intended to have an hypnotic effect. My favorite example of that ploy is Hillary Clinton. Often when interviewed she uses a comically slow speaking pace as if she were addressing a child with learning problems.

NO other generation of policy makers but this generation of morons would ever allow this to happen to our country.

I've come to the conclusion that it's a rogue government---one that will not uphold the Constitution and enforce its laws. It's not incompetence but rather planned failure, which finds its model in the business world: Enron's destruction, the Bush boys' involvement in the S & L scandal, the Clintons' gutting of the Madison Savings and Loan etc. Political office now is simply a platform from which to defraud the middle class by various means. NAFTA, WTO, FTAA are all corporate power grabs, destruction of the US Constitution, with our "government" along for the ride. Welcome to the New World Order.

You're quite right. We're being screwed in a completely bipartisan way by our monolithic "leadership". With the exception of Tancredo, we have no representation on this issue.

The corporate prostitutes who call themselves "Republican and Democratic leaders" intend to use the choreographed "protests" as a justification for passing disguised amnesty, in the form of a "guest worker program." "Guest workers" will drain the economy just as heavily as they did as illegal aliens, and are guaranteed eventual citizenship.

Frist is pro-amnesty all the way. A "guest worker" program is just amnesty under another name.

The children born to "guest workers" on American soil become American citizens automatically. The entire family then becomes eligible for citizenship.

The anchor baby route to citizenship aside, the US has no mechanism and no money for tracking "guest workers" who outstay their welcome. The "guest worker" route is just a slower road to citizenship than nominal amnesty. While waiting for citizenship "guest workers" drain the middle class just as heavily as "illegal aliens" do.

[Frist] said he will back reform "that starts by tightening our borders" and includes "a strong interior enforcement programme", as well as a temporary worker program.

Stop lying, Frist. Temporary worker programs, green cards, visas are all in effect amnesty.

They're all de facto amnesty given birthright citizenship (which legitimizes entire families of children born in the U.S.) and the fact that the U.S. has neither the funding nor the will to track those who outstay their visas.

I knew that these highly organized, government-sanctioned "protests" would be used by the Senate hounds to justify granting amnesty in the form of a "temporary worker program".

BTW, does your screen name come from, "The Quiet Man"?

That's evidently a wonderful film tribute to the Irish that I somehow missed---I'll look for it in the video store. "Innisfree" in the film may have been a poetic reference to Ireland as a whole. I took it from a favorite poem of mine by Yeats, "The Lake Isle of Innisfree."

John Ford also directed one of my favorite films, _How Green Was My Valley_, which is set in Wales. Excellent for anyone with a drop of Celtic blood.

Why don't they just construct a lighted highway? The American taxpayer would be happy to fund it. American politicians could man welcome booths where they would hand out identity cards, driver licenses and social security checks.

...He also noted that, in the past, several church groups have been excluded from the parade.

Interesting concept of civilization. They hope to foster a "love of country and community" that excludes the worship of God (too offensive) and the enforcement of law (too partisan).

I, too, used to like McCain. His dishonest positions on border protection and other issues and his support for the even more dishonest Schwarzenegger killed my enthusiasm.

Using "Kyl" as a search term, I found a blog piece that gives a brief run-down of potential candidates and their odds of winning the primary/general election:

(Polipundit.com)My take on the 2008 Republican Nomination

The analysis is pretty slim, but at least it gives an idea of likely contenders.

Let's go half-way: they cannot stand it because it is truth.

    I don't see how that's going half-way, but that's correct.

I haven't read it (though I have heard some quotations from it), so I'll take your word for it and take it as a compliment.

    Yes, well done.

Of course, what they fail to understand, is that humans have not "progressed" at all.

I've never seen evidence for the progress in which humanists place their faith. I'm more inclined to agree with those who think that man is in fact devolving, morally and spiritually, given his "progress" of the last century. Sadly, there are very few left, even among Catholics, who still believe that man is born in a state of Original Sin.

Because, in their minds, he obstructs human progress.

More likely because he represents sacrifice, the enemy of the ego.

Furthermore, progression assumes some final goal, something to progress to, which in turn implies an absolute standard, which in turn implies a higher authority who put that standard into effect--all ideas that are repulsive to this group of people.

Reminiscent of C.S. Lewis' _Mere Christianity_.

Abstract learners could be drawn to any field of study but would tend to prefer those that emphasize the study of abstract relationships and systems (human, technical, theoretical). You'd find lots of abstract learners in the social and hard sciences, literature, architecture, engineering etc. Most fields of study at the graduate level draw a high percentage of abstract learners.

Probably the proportion of abstract learners increases with each year of education completed. Abstract learners are drawn to relationships and unseen ideas and tend to rely heavily on intuition and imagination. Perhaps they are more likely than other personality types to believe in the supernatural.

Every developed society needs its cheap labor, but this need does not justify or warrant slavery, endentured servitude or illegal immigration.

True, and well said. I have never understood how those on the left can justify the virtual slavery of fieldworkers and sweatshop workers, for example, on the grounds of "tolerance".

At the same time, it's important to recognize that a huge number of the invaders are not coming over for just a job, any job--- "a job no American would want"---at slave wages. Many are coming simply to improve their standard of living, to get a better--paying job, often in the construction, agricultural and service industries. They're displacing workers in those industries and lowering wages. The key to the answer is to hold businesses accountable for hiring illicit workers----the very thing McCain and his ilk don't want.

A lot of other people in Nyack do have a problem with it:

    (Village of Nyack Meetings)

Simple decency rarely wins out in the modern world, but it's nice to see action from such concerned citizens, regardless of the outcome. I wish them luck. It's good of Baldwin to bring media attention (and his own creative ideas) to the effort.
