Don't miss it, I'm afraid. Don't miss the dysfunctional family, the rampant alcoholism, the gambling, the mosquitoes, and the folks who think I'm a heretic for leaving that paradise. :(

Miss the gumbo and my grandma....

He sure looks guilty in my book, too, but it bothers me that so much of this info was leaked to the press, and that everyone knew where he had gone fishing. If anyone ever wanted to set up this jerk, or cast suspicions on this jerk, the police sure helped....

You forgot one of the worst offenders: bad daycare. Studies show that kids who spend many hours in daycare before the age of four have more ADD problems, more aggression proglems, and higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol in their bodies.

Our local A&F is filled with middle and high schoolers every afternoon of the week. Most college students are away from home in this area.

I would have strung up the guy, but I can imagine why they did this. Apparently there was also lots of testimony telling how the victim has raged and had temper tantrums for years. Everywhere he went, it seems someone had a story to tell about him.

It seems the victim was as unsympathetic as the criminal.

    Future little metrosexuals.

Tim Smith-Anderson will marry Alex Potter-Reeves and future son will be Joey Smith-Anderson-Potter-Reeves.

Thankfully, this kind of silliness can only last one generation.....

"Cosmopolitan magazine's 1980 survey of 106,000 readers (women between the ages of 18 and 34) reported that 50% had at least one extramarital experience. For those over age 35, it jumped to 69.2%."

Considering the type of morality that Cosmo promotes, that's not really surprising. However, many more women don't read Cosmo precisely because of the morality and worldview it promotes. I never had an affair. I also don't read Cosmo.

"If all women were tested the numbers would be much lower. That rate is for those who willingly seek a DNA test because they believe their spouse has cheated."

    Ah some common sense.

I do hope the Supremes get this one right, though. It's a mockery of justice to force a guy to pay for a child who isn't his. On the other hand, if the mother and father are married, and he has parented this child long term.....complicated, huh? I suppose if he wants visitation as a parent (thereby conceding he is a parent), he could be ordered to pay child support (or, hey, even get custody). Definitely complicated....

  • Colleges Recruit Homosexuals (Barf Alert!)

B"UT, I think that all of the programs in schools saying "Hey, it's OK to be gay, in fact it's genetic and there's not a thing that you can do about it!" amounts to de facto recruitment, particularly when these cheerleaders refuse to show the other side of homosexuality - higher suicide rates, more drug abuse, AIDS, and the list goes on and on."

This makes no sense. You say gays don't recruit, but that the above amounts to "de facto recruitment". Ummm.....just who do you think is pushing for those programs?

This premise is used in homeschooling with great success. However, I'd be real afraid of what they'd do with it in public school.

For instance, this year, instead of reading a dull, dry textbook, my middle schooler will be reading and discussing with me several novels, original documents and literature from the Medieival and Rennaissance period. She will do a couple of research papers, and keep a journal. She will have a much better feel for and understanding of the time period than if she had read a book of "facts".

Here's part of her reading list:

    Magna Charta, The

World of Columbus and Sons, The

    Story of Liberty, The

    Door in the Wall, The

    Otto of the Silver Hand

    Castle

    Cathedral

    Adam of the Road

Fine Print: A Story About Johann Gutenberg

In Freedom's Cause: A Story of Wallace and Bruce

    Canterbury Tales HB

Morning Star of the Reformation, The

Hawk That Dare Not Hunt by Day, The

    Joan of Arc

She'll also keep a timeline. This is the way the founding fathers were educated. Real books. Real literature. Textbooks have their place as a scope and sequence, but anyone educated out of a textbook isn't well educated at all. Our goal this year is to instill in her a yearning for freedom, not a yearning to learn a thousand unisolated facts. (This list is from BFbooks.org)

  • WND bee champ's hometown paper: Father says media ignore Christian beliefs of home-schoolers

"I agree with you. We have a lot of home-schoolers in our area and I have noticed that many of them cannot read very well at all. I applaud parents that want to take an active part in their child's education, however, if the parents are not very well educated, they may be doing their child a disservice. Love and good intentions aren't enough to give their child an edge in today's world."

Your personal observations fly in the face of all evidence of higher test scores by homeschooled children. I will concede, however, that one of my children could meet your observation. She also has several serious learning disabilities that the public school could not adquately address. With one-on-one teaching, my child will be successful, and not a drain on the taxpayers.

If you believe that God inspired the bible, it is enough to know that the bible talks about modesty. While we may debate the finer points of modesty (length of dress, cut, etc.), I don't think we could debate that modesty means covering up boobs and butt. :)

(Modesty does refer to more than clothing. And pole dancing probably doesn't fit that definition, either.)

I don't have to spell out the part of the contract that she violated. She made it plain that she knew she violated the contract. That's all we need to know, isn't it, in regards to your question?

Although we homeschool, now, I have to admit my oldest child had permission to skip school on ditch day. It is an old tradition around here, and happens after grades are already turned in. Most senior teachers laugh about it.

The school administrators HATE IT, because their funding comes based on the average of the number of students in school on any given day. I was happy to lower the average. hehe

The school scheduled something special that morning to attract the students, but I don't remember what it was. Lots of kids wandered out afterwards. (If they were marked present by 10:00 a.m., it didn't affect funding.)

I wouldn't have cared a wit about these threads except to defend the actions of the church.

I homeschool to keep my kids away from Heather's two mommies, and Mikey's two dads, and, yes, stripper mom. I happen to like INNOCENT five year olds. And, yes, it is possible to raise innocent five year olds.

Most here would not condemn me for protecting my children, but, gee, are they willing to throw stones at these parents for wanting to protect their children. THAT is why the school has contracts. It is a Christian school for Christian parents who want to raise Christian children. It is not there as a dumping ground for parents who don't like the academics at the local public school, but care not one wit for the religious upbringing of their children.

Some schools are missionary in nature. Others are not. Besides this woman was subject to church discipline as outlined in the New Testament....ummmm.....there is more to the NT than the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
