A decent Baldwin Brother - more empirical proof that there is a God.

I dunno. One out of three (or four) ain't too impressive.

    >>Father: Ronald Reagan - President
    >>Son: Ronald P. Reagan alleged Nitwit homosexual

Wow! Such strong arguments. If only debates were won on personal attacks.

BTW, Ron Reagan is married, not that his sexuality has anything to do with the issue. You are as misinformed as liberals who still talk as if Rush Limbaugh is overweight. Get a clue.

    >>Ron Reagan Jr stated this evening that he believes that
    >>the Americans who waited for hours to honor his father
    >>did so because his dad as President was a contrast to
    >>the current administration's failings.

I saw the interview and he said nothing of the kind. BTW, I was one of those Americans who "waited for hours to honor his father." A mere four hours was the least I could do to pay tribute to a great president. I took no offense at the Ron Reagan interview. I guess if controversy doesn't exist, you have to create it.

The following 90 Democrats, 2 Republicans, and one Independent, couldn't find it in their hearts to put politics aside and voted AGAINST commending the United States Armed Forces and Coalition forces for liberating Iraq, and REFUSED to express their gratitude for our Armed Forces' and Coalition forces" valiant service.

This piece of legislation was itself an election-year/polticial exercise. The fact that 90 people voted against it tells you that there are only about 20% in Congress that are willing to stand up for what they believe rather than be guided by the current political winds/hysteria. What congress needs is more people willing to follow their conscience rather than cast their vote out of fear of being labeled as some sort or extremist of anti-American.

Both of these rallies were un-original and predictable -- with ideologues from both sides regurgitating their pet clichés.

As expected, the "anti-war" crowd converted the rally from a principled opposition to the warfare state into one of bashing the Bush administration, engaging in ad hominem attacks, lacing public discourse with profanity, promoting irrelevant "causes" and otherwise missing the boat. This group persuaded no one today ... and may very well have turned some people off.

On the Right, you also had your share of sloganeering, clichés and ad hominem attacks, with protest signs demonstrating the usual confusion over what it means to be a patriot and an American.

On net, nothing changed today ... except a few people getting satisfaction from thinking all their brow beating and righteous indignation actually accomplished something meaningful.

As a conservative who opposed the war in Iraq, I think the anti-war rally today was a sad joke.

As much as I'd like to see those who got us into this war held to account, this bunch of anti-war losers is not the way to get there.

It was labeled on C-SPAN as a rally against "Iraq Occupation." However, it would have been better labeled an Anti-Bush or Hate-Bush rally. I haven't seen this much vitriol since an Impeach Clinton rally.

The sponsors of this event just don't get. Middle America is not going to be persuaded by this "method" of opposing the war in Iraq.

I don't think those of you who think pre-emptive war is a good thing has anything to worry about with this crowd. They appear to be their own worst enemy.

If I'm not mistaken, Nina Totenberg is also the one who said women everywhere should show their thanks to Bill Clinton for keeping abortion legal by giving him a blow job. She didn't use those exact words, but she referenced women getting on their knees in the context of what Monica had done for Bill. Personally, I would hope respectable women would have a higher standard for felating a man than his willingness to protect their right to kill their unborn child.

That would certainly explain why the insider sell to buy ratio is so high. We haven't seen corporate insiders bailing in such large numbers since 1999. And, we all know what came next.

I suppose all this insider selling could just be executives selling to "break even" after a 3-year bear market. But, one should definitely think twice before committing more money to the market while those "in the know" continue to vote "no-confidence" in such large numbers.

Remember also that corporate insiders need people to sell their shares to (read: Joe Investor who doesn't have inside information), so one might question what kind of smoke corporate spokespeople might be blowing when they say things are good.

This is a snippet from the Oct. 10 ValueLine I.S.: "Some cracks in the economy’s armor are starting to appear as we begin the fourth quarter. Until very recently, the business expansion had been proceeding smoothly, with both the consumer and industrial sectors exhibiting steady improvement. Now, although the housing market is still performing very well and September’s employment report was better than expected, some sluggishness has crept into the manufacturing sector; consumer confidence has fallen; and new factory orders have declined for the first time in several months."

Up with conservatism and FreeRepublic of yesteryear. Down with the current neo-con administration and what FreeRepublic has become (an apologist forum for neo-cons).

Just based on the # of responses to this message, it's obvious that Paul's message has struck a lot nerves. As they say, the truth hurts.

Who cares? Nugent can be a racist if he wants to. Last time I checked, we still have free speech. If Nugent is a Neanderthal in his views, so be it. I don't know why there is a constant appeal for people to contain their views/opinions within a certain framework. Let people speak their minds and let the chips fall where they may.

This is nothing but hyperbole. I'm no friend of non-Islamic fundamentalists, but this kind of fearmongering is baseless. As someone who was an adult in the 1980s, I recall the left-wing themes of the times where we were told that Reagan would usher in Armegeddon, but only after women were denied the right to vote, have abortions, speak. Of course, nothing of the kind ever happened. But, it sure raised a he!! a lot of money for those pedaling fear. Of course, the Right is known for its own share of fearmongering (e.g. during the Clinton years) in order to raise bucks for "the cause."

Unlike most Freeper "conservatives" who suddenly discover the benevolence of the State, I'm not opposed to libraries throwing a wrench in the Patriot Act. On the other hand, I'd like to know how these libraries would deal with terrorism. It's easy to be reactive and oppose something. But, it's quite another to propose an alternative means of accomplishing the same goal. Those opposed to the Patriot Act need to do better than oppose Bush's solution. They need to come up with their own alternative for dealing with a real problem.
