People don’t all stand in the exact same spot the whole time. They move around a little. Perhaps the mom and boy switched places a few minutes later. The photo wasn’t taken seconds before the bomb went off or the perp would be wounded too.

It concerns me that this needs to be pointed out.

Any good Twitter feeds following the Boston bomber suspect?

The ones I was watching went to sleep. (Was not just one person, but a handful of people/reporters tweeting updates and pure news (not meaningless comment).

Help, not familiar with twitter, so need link(s) please.

I don’t want to be pinged to every new blog post on MCC. If there’s a particularly good or interesting entry then ping me, but if you’re going to ping me to each and every one MCC puts out then I’ll have to ask you to take me off your list. It’s just too many pings for me. Thanks.

The death of an animal is the worst part of hunting or raising domesticated animals for meat. We don’t “enjoy” that part at all. Anyone who actually enjoys the death part is a sick, twisted individual.

Anyone who thinks people who farm or hunt and “enjoy” the death part is ignorant. It seems this would include you. I’m not saying this as an insult, because being ignorant is NOT the same as being stupid.

Farming is an excellent lifestyle. It teaches a person how precious life is. Farmers, especially those from the now almost extinct “family farm”, enjoy a quality of life that few of us are able to experience anymore, and it’s a shame.

Living intimately with nature, with its plants and animals (wild and domestic), having close and extended family and other people from the small community, weather and other natural phenomenon (both good and bad), hard work, success and failure, and birth, sickness, life and death - it teaches us what life is all about. The further from nature a people is, the more seperated from life they are. Living intimately with nature teaches us about life more than any classroom ever could.

We raise animals or hunt so that we can eat, or we hire people to do it for us. If it was possible to eat animals without killing them then we would. Taking a life is not easy. It’s even harder when you see the animal alive and at peace prior to aiming your weapon, and even harder yet when you witness the birth of that animal, and watch it grow (and learn and play and devolop a personality) over the years, and then comes the day you have to kill it. IT’S NOT ENJOYABLE. Ok? It’s not.

Unlike city folk and grocery store only folk, those who obtain their own food are more appreciative of where their food comes from, especially those who are completely self-sufficient and rely on the land for their very survival. They raised their food or grew it, and they killed it or harvested it, and they cooked it or preserved it. They are intimately familiar with the process from beginning to end, unlike those who rely on grocery stores or worse yet, packaged food or a restaurant, where they don’t even cook it let alone grow/raise/hunt it.

Modern industrial agriculture allows people to be vegetarians now, or even vegans if they choose. Good for them. But for billions of people over the past thousands of years, and to this day in much of the world, that has not been an option. We need protein or we will die. Enjoy your freedom but don’t look down on those of us that have a natural preference for meat, whether from the store or from our own efforts. And certainly don’t claim that we enjoy killing animals, cause you’d be very wrong. The rest of it, yes, we enjoy it, but not the killing part.

Please do not stick your nose up at people who raise animals for meat, or at those who eat thanks to a successful hunt. The thrill is in the before and after, not the “during” of the kill. To think otherwise is ignorance.

To think otherwise, after having been informed, would be sick.

    You look without seeing too?

Read my post again. If you still see things that are not there then see my post 67.

If you still have a problem after that then take it up with God.

And please don’t presume to know what I would or wouldn’t do. You don’t “see” anything or know what I would or wouldn’t do, or what I think or feel.

Did either of you actually read my post?

Bristol is a reflection of her parents. We are all a product of our environment. To deny this fact would be foolish. I am fully aware that good parenting can result in less than ideal behavior from kids (and vice versa), which is why I said I will wait and see how the Palins handle Bristol’s decisions.

I’ll repeat myself: For this reason I have concerns about Sarah’s ability to lead our nation, yet I will wait and see how Todd & Sarah handle this over the months and years ahead.

My concern is based on guidance found in the bible [1 Timothy 3]:

Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. Now the overseer must be above reproach... HE MUST MANAGE HIS OWN FAMILY WELL AND SEE THAT HIS CHILDREN OBEY HIM WITH PROPER RESPECT. (IF ANYONE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO MANAGE HIS OWN FAMILY, HOW CAN HE TAKE CARE OF GOD’S CHURCH?)

This passage does not just apply to men, or to overseers, or to the church. It has to do with selecting good leadership.

To call my *concern but wait & see* stance the “stupidest ever” goes against good biblical instruction and defies sound logic, so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you did not actually hear what I was saying.

    I’ll be honest.

Bristol’s lack of maturity makes me question Sarah’s ability to lead our nation.

If Sarah can’t govern her own household, then how can she govern our country in the sorry shape it’s in?

Her daughter is exhibiting a tremendous amount of immaturity for her age, *especially* when you consider her upbringing (the moral lifestyle Todd and Sarah project). If the Palin household is as grounded as they appear, then why would Bristol show this level of immaturity?

I like Sarah Palin (quite a bit), so I will wait and see how she (and Todd) handle this over the months and years ahead. However, I am seriously concerned because Bristol’s behavior is a reflection of her parenting/upbringing (basically “leading”) by Todd and Sarah.

“You will know them by their fruits...”

    Flame away.

  • Has anyone had a dog with a brain tumor?

    07/14/2010 3:03:34 AM PDT · 33 of 83
    Miztiki to Judith Anne

I had a brain tumor. I can tell you what it’s like.

Among other things, they cause headaches. One of which lasted for almost 3 months non-stop. Every second for almost 3 months. It hurt, and I suffered for a very long time, almost 2 years. (Long story.)

I had my old Mickey dog put down many years ago. She was a Border Collie mix that I had gotten as a small pup. She lived to be 14 1/2. She was my BEST FRIEND.

I drove her to the vet, myself, and held her while she was put to sleep. It was the one of the hardest things I have ever had to endure in my life. (I had my support group follow me there though.)

Mickey wasn’t on her death bed. Over the last 6 months of her life, her health declined. She went mostly blind. She needed help getting up and down the porch steps. She couldn’t hold her poop in (would just fall out where she slept). She would get “lost” right there in the house and bark for my help.

She wasn’t in severe pain or on her death bed.

**She had NO QUALITY OF LIFE anymore though.**

I loved my dog enough to spare her from her mere existence, hard as it was.

After going through my own health problems years later, I can only say that what I did for my old Mickey dog was true love. There’s a huge difference between living and existing.

p.s. I took Mickey to the GA mountains (where we used to live) for a fun-filled weekend, and I fed her moon pies and Big Macs, something she was never allowed to eat before. On the way to the vet I pulled over, shaking and choked up so bad I could barely breathe, and asked how I could drive my best friend to be killed. But I looked at my dog, my best friend, and I knew that waiting would not make her life better, only worse. It was hard, but it was the right thing to do.

p.p.s. My tumor was removed 9 years ago. I have only existed since then, not lived. It’s been no life, just misery. I look forward to my day of “release”.
