    Why not name those denominations

Because I don't feel a need to start a thread about fellow Christians. Especially if it's likely that some will take it as criticism where none is intended. I'm not bothered if they don't have Bibles in their pews. I'm not bothered if they listen to the Word instead of reading along. Nor am I bothered if you or anyone else don't believe me about the absence of Bibles in nonCatholic churches. At least in my area. God knows I speak the truth and that's really all I care about.

maybe members of those other denominations will want to discuss it with you.

I have family members and acquaintances in some of those churches. And I attend one such service myself every week. I can have plenty of RL conversation partners any time I want. Without the bigotry that erupts on FR :)

as Bible avoiding as the Catholic denomination

Start a thread so that other denominations can be mocked with similar claptrap? No thanks! The churches I'm thinking of all proclaim Sacred Scripture from the pulpit. They're not "Bible avoiding" unless they're Scripture avoidant, which none of them are. Please save the word games for low-info commenters gullible enough to fall for them. They only heighten my disinterest in anything further you have to say.

I'm off this thread now. Peace be with you.

so my original point was accurate

So was mine: Great numbers of nonCatholics don't use Bibles in their services, therefore it's hypocritical to single out one group for criticism but not the other. A commenter unwilling to man up to his hypocrisy is a commenter whose words hold no further interest for me. Peace be with you.

your attempts to portray a couple of sheets of paper as “the Bible

Can you not defend your position without putting words in my mouth? I never said a missal was a Bible. I said missals contain scripture. A few sheets of paper? Readings for 1 month to 3 years, depending on the missal(ette) is more than a "few sheets of paper." That's quite some disinformation from someone who prides himself on fact!

the people posting to me that the bibles were right there in the holders behind the pews was wrong

That may be. I'm not responsible for what other people post. The fact is, there are scriptures in the pew in most Catholic parishes, unlike most nonCatholic churches I've been in, where there is no scripture in ANY hard copy form in pew backs. Only hymnals, which may contain some scriptures. I racked my brain to think of hardcopy scriptures I've seen in nonCatholic Churches. Can't recall a single church with a complete Bible in the pew. The only thing I can remember is sometimes receiving a bulletin as I walked into the service. And inside the bulletin would be some scripture relevant to the pastor's sermon topic that day. It may be for reading after church. Or following along as the pastor read. Or for reading aloud as a congregation. You were saying something about "a couple sheets of paper?"

Attempting to change the subject in post after post of your narratives is not useful either

Challenging your spin is not change of subject, LOL. Although your reference to "listening to a sermon" certainly is. I didn't speak about sermons at all. I spoke of proclaiming/reading the Word during Mass. You know, formal reading of Sacred Scripture during public communal worship by a priest or lector while folks in the pews LISTEN to Scripture being proclaimed instead of reading along in a Bible provided in the back of the pew.

You singled out Catholics for a lack of Bibles in the pews but have given nonCatholic churches without them a free pass. Call that changing the subject if you like. I call it hypocrisy.

I’m not doing a narrative, you are.

Let's explore your narrative, shall we?

    Post 6 was very simple...

Indeed. You said, "The thing that baffled me...was, I couldn’t figure out how they conducted services without bibles." Glad you used past tense for your bafflement since you are aware that Scriptures are contained in missals, as you acknowledged in post #65: "Catholic parishes usually supply missalettes, which contain ...the Scripture readings." In post #65 you stated, "A missal isn’t the Bible, it is a missal. Therefore your narrative seems to be that without a complete set of scriptures available in the pews, it's problematic when a lector or Priest reads the Word from the pulpit.

Your narrative also seems to indicate that LISTENING to the Word without a full set of scriptures is problematic too. In post #65 you quoted Catholic Answers as saying "Some parishes prefer that congregants listen only to the lector rather than silently reading along..." Are there not numerous scriptures that point out the importance of HEARING the word? Or are those scriptures reserved only for nonCatholics whose pews have no Bibles and no hardcopy of scripture in any form?

...folks in the media who like their Republicans timid and house-trained...

How about "corrupt and house-trained?" RINOs make deals instead of representing constituents. Media propagandize instead of reporting news. Both make a living by NOT functioning as is proper to their roles. Most private sector employers don't tolerate that kind of graft. Unfortunately our media and our govt are so corrupt as to promote it.

    Really? What churches were those?

Just about any denomination you can think of. Maybe it's a regional thing in my area. I'm talking about Bibles in the pews. I'm sure if I asked before services if I could borrow one that someone would find me one. The same would be true if you asked for a Bible in my parish. Someone would get you one.

Just down the street (at a Methodist Church which has been there a bit longer than I've been alive) one can show up bare handed for a bible study --- there are plenty enough extras.

The same would be true in my parish. There are Bibles in classrooms, the chapel, the library, and other places. I was referring to Bibles in the pews, which seemed to be what Ansel was talking about. Other than responsive readings in the hymnal, I honestly cannot recall scriptures being provided in any form (handout, full Bible, etc) in the pews in any protestant churches I've been in. I have no doubt there were many Bibles in other places around those churches. That wasn't the issue though, at least as I understood it. Peace be with you.

If you look at post 6 my point was that the people didn’t take their own bibles

Perhaps that's because we're encouraged to read, meditate upon, and pray over the scripture readings before Mass, at least in my parish. As Boatbums rightly noted in post #16, it's important to HEAR the gospel too. Our pastor wanted us to LISTEN to what God was saying to us during Mass.

I just didn’t see bibles in the Catholic churches at all.

You might not see them in mine either (apart from those who bring them and the book of the Gospels during the opening procession and Gospel reading) unless you know where to look. I can think of several places to grab one before Mass if I want one, but if you just walked in and were unfamiliar with the place you'd likely not know where to get one.

I started getting people posting to me that the bibles were furnished by the church, which I hadn’t seen either and which appears to have been false information.

Perhaps it isn't false information at all. There may be missals (containing scriptures used in that day's Mass) in the pews and full scriptures (Bibles) outside of the sanctuary where anyone who wants to borrow one for Mass is free to do so.

The Protestant churches I had been in were full of bibles, the people carried them in, not having a bible in hand would have been unusual.

I used to do that too, in part because it wasn't known ahead of time what text the minister would be preaching on. Mass readings are easy to find out ahead of time and many Catholics do their readings before church instead of in church. Peace be with you.

I’ve seen responsive readings that were printed out or included in hymnals. Can’t recall ever getting a handout of the passage(s) being read from the pulpit though. Will have to think on that but so far can’t recall any.

A missal isn’t the Bible, it is a missal.

True. Can't remember ever seeing a Bible in the pew rack of any protestant church I've been in. At least I can read the scriptures for the Mass from the missal if I didn't get a chance to read them beforehand. Can't do that at the protestant service as there are no Bibles or scripture handouts provided for the service.

Although their are plenty of Bibles in any Catholic Church...

True, although what's in the pew is generally a missal containing scripture passages for the liturgical cycle and a hymnal. FWIW I was raised protestant and I don't think I've ever been in a protestant church that supplied Bibles in the pews, just hymnals. The protestant service that I attend each week (I take a relative who would have no other way to get there) doesn't supply Bibles, just hymnals.

I was frustrated to no end that she and McCain didn’t bring up Obama’s New Party affiliation. His political memberships and endorsements should have been discussed as even more important than personal associations such as Ayers or Wright. I still like Sarah quite a bit although I lost some respect for her when she put getting elected above going rogue and leveling with the American people about Obama’s ties to the NP.

When Obama goes, he takes his circus with him.

But the data will live on forever. All the medical histories of political candidates, ordinary citizens, etc will never get destroyed. They can be used to intimidate and blackmail well past the end of Obama's administration. And all the phony voter registrations and election fraud mechanisms put in place based on information gained by navigators going door to door will influence elections long after Obama's administration.

The circus may eventually leave town but the piles of excrement left behind will take a very long time to clean up.

Imagine Sabrina Fulton with your SS# and health records

Imagine the obama corruption machine with health information on every conservative running for office. In fact for every conservative in office unless congress finds a way to weasel out of having to buy their coverage on the exchange next year. Think of obama's minions having access to personal health information and tax information on governors, religious leaders, or anyone who dares oppose his agenda. The possibilities for blackmail and destruction of personal reputation are mindboggling.
