  • Vanity: Judicial Branch missing from Whitehouse.gov site?

Just wondering if anyone has noticed that the Judicial Branch link is missing under the "Our Government" section of whitehouse.gov. I went to the wayback machine and pulled up Jan 20 (it's there) and compared it to Jan 21 (it's gone - it's still gone as of today). Jan 20: https://web.archive.org/web/20170120001000/https://www.whitehouse.gov/ Jan 21: https://web.archive.org/web/20170121000553/https://www.whitehouse.gov/ Thoughts?

Buckyballs, the three-year-old innovative toy company that makes magnetic desk toys for adults, is in the fight of its life. The Obama administration’s Consumer Product Safety Commission has filed a lawsuit to stop the firm from selling its products and to issue a recall of its toys. Several retailers have yanked the magnets, despite the company’s clear warning that Buckyballs and Buckycubes are for adults — not children. Buckyballs executives have taken to social media and radio airwaves to save the company.

A six-year-old boy who wanted to help his father clear timber ended up losing his life due to his altruistic urge, in one of the more gruesome recent tragedies. Jeffrey Bourgeoiff, who was helping his father throw branches into a wood chipper, decided to throw a few branches in himself while his father’s back was turned
  • Help selecting PC video editing software (vanity)

Greetings, fellow FReepers. I have a need for some video editing software. Currently running Windows 7 64-bit / AMD Phenom II X4 965 / 8 GB RAM / Radeon HD 6870 1 GB. I'm trying to edit some video from my son's little league season. Dub out some of the more colorful language caught from over-zealous parents, add some music, transitions, simple effects. I have some experience with some basic software but I'm looking to get something that is intuitive while not breaking my bank (i.e. around $100 or less if at all possible). My concern is that I've had...
  • Gov. Malloy Proposes Measure To 'Tax' Coupons (New CT Gov)

Gov. Malloy Proposes Measure To 'Tax' Coupons Conn. Gov. Also Considers Raising State Sales Tax To 6.35% HARTFORD, Conn. -- Devotees of coupons and discounts are angry at Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's proposal to slap a new sales tax on the original price of a good or service rather than the discounted price. Ending the sales tax exemptions for coupons, discounts and automobile trade-ins are among tax exemptions Malloy has proposed ending to help close the state's projected $3.5 billion deficit. For example, the tax would be imposed on the $30 price of a blouse, not the $15 sales price.

My Mom sent me an email with a link to this video. It's a song written by a teacher who taught their third-grade class. After what we witnessed with the mmm-mmm-mmm video, I thought this would be a good video to share on what it's really all about... our Veterans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pfBUUZNbFM&feature=player_embedded(Quick note to mods - I don't start many threads so I hope this is OK. Change as necessary.) Take care my FReeper FRiends. And may God watch over our protectors.

  • Graham grills Holder: Does Bin Laden need to be given his Miranda rights?

Per the last post, here’s how “carefully” Holder consulted the law before pulling the trigger on KSM. Not only does Graham have to tell him that there’s no precedent for trying battlefield detainees in civilian court, but Holder’s emphasis on how we don’t need a confession to convict Bin Laden completely misses the larger point Graham’s trying to make.

ATTN Connecticut FReepers: I received the following email from Joe Courtney's office this afternoon (I should be on his mailing list as I'm a bit of a pest): In a continued effort to hear the views of my constituents, I will host a public Town Hall forum on Wednesday, September 2 at 6:30 PM to discuss the critical issue of health insurance reform. The forum, which is open to all Second District residents, will be held at Montville High School located at 800 Old Colchester Road in Oakdale. This year, I have hosted or participated in more than fifteen public...

Greetings! I just volunteered for a project at work to chair a team that will look at building a knowledge base for our internal use. We are a technical company that provides computers, software and services with resources that are based around the globe. Our documentation is scattered about with pockets of organization and a lot of head-knowledge. The charter will be to develop a tool that is easy to use (otherwise no one will use it, of course) that allows our resources to access the information via an index or query and provide links to where formal documentation may...

Morning Bell: Obama Admits He’s “Not Familiar” With House Bill Today at 6:16am With the public’s trust in his handling of health care tanking (50%-44% of Americans disapprove), the White House has launched a new phase of its strategy designed to pass Obamacare: all Obama, all the time. As part of that effort, Obama hosted a conference call with leftist bloggers urging them to pressure Congress to pass his health plan as soon as possible. During the call, a blogger from Maine said he kept running into an Investors Business Daily article that claimed Section 102 of the House health...

Word Play Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has an explanation about why she never mentioned the word "terrorism" during her first testimony on Capitol Hill. Napolitano tells the German news site Spiegel Online that while she presumes there is always a threat from terrorism: "I referred to "man-caused" disasters. That is perhaps only a nuance, but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur." James Carafano, senior research fellow at the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation says: "By deliberately trying not to use...

Fellow FReepers, It is with a heavy heart that I post this to let you know we lost another FReeper. My dad lost his long and courageous battle with lung cancer last night at home surrounded by family. I was fortunate enough to make it to his side minutes before he passed. As I held his hand and announced my arrival, I could tell he knew I was there as his unfocused eyes lifted toward my face. I told him how much I loved him and how thankful I was to have been "raised right" and for everything he did...
  • City Council overrides veto, bans metal bats in NYC (Knee-Jerk Alert!)

NEW YORK -- Metal bats will be banned in high school baseball starting this September in the nation's largest school system after the City Council on Monday overrode a mayoral veto of the bill. The measure outlaws metal bats under the theory that they produce harder and faster hits, risking injury to young players who have less time to react. Opponents, who include Little League Baseball and sporting goods makers, say there is no evidence metal bats are more dangerous. Youth leagues and lawmakers are proposing similar bans in other areas, including New Jersey, where a 12-year-old boy went into...

DON'T FEEL TOO SORRY FOR THE DUKIES Mike Nifong, the North Carolina prosecutor who pursued a case of rape and kidnapping against three Duke University lacrosse players, has been found to have been reckless and deceitful in the discharge of his duties according to the state's attorney general. He abused the power the people of Durham granted him. Based on the public record of what he did in this case, he may well be properly disbarred. The accuser in this case has been shown to be either a vicious liar or a troubled fantasist. The three young men who she...

I was traveling home from business in OH (flying from CVG) and I had a couple of hours before my delayed flight was to depart so I decided to grab some dinner. I was out in Concourse C so there weren't many eating establishments to choose from but I decided on a place called Moe's (the reuben sounded good). The restaurant wasn't too crowded but the hostess sat me right next to a soldier. If you've been in an airport restaurant, you know how close the tables are and this was as if we were sitting at the same one....

PEARL HARBOR Many years ago we were sitting around the radio station planning some future events and appearances. The discussion turned to a request for a station even on December 7th. One person at the meeting reminded us that December 7th was Pearl Harbor Day. Another piped up with a question: "Pearl Harbor Day? What's that?" It's not 13 years later, and I dare say that you wouldn't have to look very far to find someone wouldn't have a clue what Pearl Harbor was all about. That's not surprising, considering the quality of our government schools. My family moved to...

ESPN broadcaster Michael Irvin apologized on Monday for comments last week which said that Dallas Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo's athletic ability must be the result of an African-American heritage. "I do want to apologize for those comments," Irvin said on the Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio. It was on the Patrick show last week that Irvin made the comments on Romo's athleticism. "They were inappropriate and insensitive. My whole thing, what I always try to do, is give people a first-hand knowledge of what it's like in the locker room and how we as players joke around with one...

KENOVA, W.Va. -- A charter plane carrying the Marshall University football team to a game against East Carolina was evacuated Friday after smoke was reported in an engine, emergency officials said. No injuries were reported among the 200 people aboard, but the timing was eerie. Almost 36 years ago, on Nov. 14, 1970, a plane carrying the Marshall football team home from a game against East Carolina crashed, killing 75 people, including most of the team. A movie about the rebuilding of Marshall's football program after that crash is scheduled to open nationwide on Dec. 22. Marshall's sports information director...
