Amen, SamuraiScot. I support Ted Cruz because he has been the only politician over the last two decades who has not let me down. He went to Washington and stood up for my conservative values against the Washington Cartel.

He is the most consistently conservative candidate I have seen since Reagan. What a shame that so many are swayed by the propaganda used against him.

I think you hit the nail on the head, here. Obama has been very disappointed with lack of progress in banning guns. Never forget that the advances made in the Supreme Court regarding the Second Amendment have been determined by one vote.

The article pushes the Abortion angle, but never mentions the 2nd Amendment... I wonder why?

Yeah, I hear ya, shotgun. If I was looking to to do touring trips, I would have an entirely different outlook, as the criteria for meeting my needs would change.

Don’t know what I will end up with, but I’m the kind of person that does his homework before buying, and at this stage I wouldn’t rule out the Royal Enfield.

My biggest concern is reliability, although I read they are improving.

Yes, I know all too well about rider fatigue. I had dirt bikes as a kid, and as soon as I was old enough to get a driver’s license, I bought a small Honda runabout. It was perfect for what I used it for, just running around town.

Some friends of mine talked me into going on a multi-state trip over a holiday weekend, and I was never more miserable in my life (and being young, I tolerated misery much better than I do now!). The vibration practically rattled my back fillings out!

I sold that bike in the 1970’s, and now that I am in my 60’s and approaching retirement, I might consider another bike. Like my old one, it would be used as a runabout. I like the old retro cruiser look. And any thoughts of cross country touring would be fantasy. A 100 mile day trip to Galveston would be as far as I would take it. So, something like this bike might be just what I am looking for. The bikes Royal Enfield builds aren’t racers, just leisurely cruisers. I probably fit their demographic.

My rep is one of those who sends out newsletters about how conservative he is, then votes for Cromnibus and supports Boehner.

I just visited his Facebook site: response from the constituents is overwhelmingly negative. We see Boehner as part of the problem, not the solution. If my rep. were to hold a Town Hall meeting today, he would probably be met with torches and pitchforks.

Quite right, Dilbert. This has languished on Harry Reid’s desk for years. Mary Landrieu is in deep reelection trouble and needs all the help she can get. So she is pushing for a Keystone Pipeline vote now to help her garner a few votes. Later, Obama can always veto it. What a sad and cynical way to run the country!!!

Do these kids even have gym class nowadays? Do they burn significant calories there like we did 50 years ago, or has it been toned down to accomodate the average video gamer couch potato?

Its not what they eat as much as the lack of activity to burn it off.

I was a kid during that time frame too. I lived in paradise - a dairy farm with creeks and woods, and I had the run of them. It was not unusual to tent camp overnight in the woods, walk 50 feet to the creek, and catch trout for breakfast. The trout would be supplemented with wild blackberries, apples, and the sweetest black cherries I have ever eaten, picked off a tree by the road.

My brother and I were usually within earshot, but if we didn’t come after first call, the conch trumpet always got our attention. I had read about the Polynesians using a conch shell for a horn. We pestered Mom to buy us one until she finally relented (I can remember they had large boxes full of them in the local grocery store). I knocked the end off of it with a lucky hammer blow, and danged if it didn’t work! Sounded like a diesel horn.

I feel sorry for my grandkids - they have no idea what they have missed.

What Obama Inherited:

* His relatives Socialist/Marxist/Anti-Imperialist views.

* His mentor’s (Ayers et. al.) radical views.

* His Pastor’s racist views.

Having a President (and I use the term loosely) with such a background makes for interesting times.

I too remember when it was cool to hang out at the malls. I was a twenty-something in the late 1970’s starting out on a geology career in Texas. That meant field work in the boondocks all week long. On the weekends when we came into town, the routine was going out clubbing on Friday night, Saturday morning golf, and the rest of the day spent at the mall.

San Antonio had three nice malls on the north side, so you even had variety. Haven’t been back there in years, I wonder if any of them are still left?

Lived in Dallas during the 1980’s: I know most of the malls that we frequented there are gone.

Today I work across from the Greenspoint Mall in Houston. After Sears left, it turned into a ghost town. I used to walk there at lunch for excercise - I don’t consider it a safe place to walk anymore.

Of the malls that still appear to be doing well in my area, I notice there is little for guys there. It’s mostly boutiques, women’s clothes, and jewelry. I do most of my shopping on the internet.

About the time my High School class members and I were getting our drivers licenses, all of the ‘60’s muscle cars were 4 or 5 years old, and affordable! I never had a muscle car (my ‘61 Chevy Belair only had a 6 cylinder), but many of my friends did.

My brother-in-law still has a 1967 Camaro that was a father-son restoration project. Love that car, always liked the ‘60’s Camaros the best.

I opened an account on Facebook initially because my new smart phone had an icon for it. Forgot about it for months. Then one day, I was talking to one of my old high school buddies, who was telling me about an old car he was restoring.

He tells me he has documented the whole restoration on Facebook, and off I went!

Like Cuban Leaf, I have used it for band stuff. I keep up with family and old friends that live far away. My family name is unique enough that if you have the same last name, you gotta be related to me. I had an aunt and uncle that lived in Buffalo, NY; I vaguely remember meeting them once or twice when they came to visit. Apparently, they and their offspring have been very prolific, and I was amazed to find out that an entire branch of the family now exists there, thanks to Facebook.

I’ve heard from many of my grade school and high school classmates. A few of them, I have not seen or heard from since the day we graduated high school. Now we are all grey with grandkids (proud to say that I still have a full head of hair, unlike some of them!).

Some of them are obvious libs, and its fun to torment them with posts involving conservative candidates, NRA/2nd Amendment stuff, etc.

Lastly, there are groups on Facebook for just about any interest you could possibly imagine, and I seem to have a penchant for collecting oddball hobbies. Yeah, I belong to a number of specific Forums on the internet, but have received good info from Facebook too, it is a good source of information for me.

As an old fart, I am proud that I have stayed technologically literate, and believe in leveraging new technology to my advantage. I wouldn’t know half as much as I do if I didn’t read Free Republic once in a while, and I do find Facebook useful, although I have torn loyalties when I hear what they support.
