  • Prayers requested for my Mom

I'm asking for prayers for my Mom, who is having some severe circulatory issues in her leg, is going to lose a toe and possibly her foot. It isn't diabetes, but a genetic vascular problem. I know this works, because the prayers for my Dad get credit in him recovering from a shattered pelvis. He's recovered, and back on his feet and getting around without a cane or walker (at 92). All things are possible with The Lord.

Fellow FReepers, I'm asking you if you have taken or know someone who has taken Shark Cartilage as part of Cancer therapy, and if so, what sort of cancer, which brand, and what the results were. I'm digging into this for a friend whose mother is currently Stage 4, but has been fighting metastatic ovarian cancer for a couple of years now. Please share your knowledge whether your findings were good or bad. Thanks!

I know I'm not around much, but I am requesting that the prayer warriors here and anyone else interested pray for my son-in-law who was in an ATV accident. He is coming out of the medically induced coma, and is breathing on his own, but has a long way to go. He suffered facial fractures, small brain bleeds and other injuries, is opening his eyes, and tracking the nurses with them, has responded to pain and vocal stimuli, but has yet to wake up fully or speak. Please pray for his complete and rapid recovery. He remains in ICU at...

I know I'm not around often, but I am here to humbly ask you to pray for my Daughter, who is currently in ICU with pneumonia and MRSA. Last night the doctors said she was doing better, today they called for family, even though they won't let anyone into the unit over COVID concerns. Please pray for her recovery and healing.

  • 'Scarier than we initially thought': CDC sounds warning on Zika virus

WASHINGTON — Public health officials used their strongest language to date in warning about a Zika outbreak in the United States, as the Obama administration lobbied Congress for $1.9 billion to combat the mosquito-borne virus. "Most of what we've learned is not reassuring," said Dr. Anne Schuchat, the principal deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "Everything we look at with this virus seems to be a bit scarier than we initially thought." As summer approaches, officials are warning that mosquito eradication efforts, lab tests and vaccine research may not be able to catch up. There are...
  • Brazilian scientists find new Zika-linked brain disorder in adults

    Yahoo! News ^ | April 10, 2016 | Julie Steenhuysen
Scientists in Brazil have uncovered a new brain disorder associated with Zika infections in adults: an autoimmune syndrome called acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, or ADEM, that attacks the brain and spinal cord. Zika has already been linked with the autoimmune disorder Guillain-Barre syndrome, which attacks peripheral nerves outside the brain and spinal cord, causing temporary paralysis that can in some cases require patients to rely on respirators for breathing. The new discovery now shows Zika may provoke an immune attack on the central nervous system as well. The findings add to the growing list of neurological damage ...

We received a notice yesterday of our first case of confirmed Zika in Shelby County," says Alisa Haushalter, Director of Health Services in Shelby County. FOX13 has learned the man, who remains unidentified, contracted the Zika virus while he was in either South America, Central America or the Caribbean recently. Third case of Zika virus confirmed in Mississippi Haushalter says, “I know that it's a country that had Zika there.” Haushalter says when the man returned home he was feeling under the weather. He contacted the health department and then went to his doctor.
  • Zika mystery deepens with evidence of nerve cell infections

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Top Zika investigators now believe that the birth defect microcephaly and the paralyzing Guillain-Barre syndrome may be just the most obvious maladies caused by the mosquito-borne virus. Fueling that suspicion are recent discoveries of serious brain and spinal cord infections - including encephalitis, meningitis and myelitis - in people exposed to Zika. Evidence that Zika's damage may be more varied and widespread than initially believed adds pressure on affected countries to control mosquitoes and prepare to provide intensive - and, in some cases, lifelong - care to more patients. The newly suspected disorders can cause paralysis and...

Old news, sorta....>snip<...Now, as Carson overtakes Trump as the GOP front-runner, it appears Trump is getting help from a media outlet known for ending presidential candidacies: the National Enquirer. Earlier this month, the Enquirer published a cover story on Carson headlined “Bungling Surgeon Ben Carson Left Sponge in Patient’s Brain!” The article called Carson a “White House wannabe” and claimed he “brandished a scalpel like a meat cleaver!” It went on to quote angry former patients saying he botched surgeries that left them disfigured and in pain; one patient who sued Carson said he forgot to remove a surgical sponge...

Sources close to the private fundraiser held for Hillary Clinton in Beaumont, TX told 12News it raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some estimates put the amount collected at half-a-million dollars, making it one of the top five private fundraisers Clinton has had in this country. DAKAR (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Health workers are rushing to the site of a fresh Ebola outbreak in Guinea to bolster efforts to contain the virus and prepare for the likelihood of more cases, aid agencies said on Friday. Sexual transmission of the Zika virus is more common than previously thought, the World Health Organization said Tuesday, citing reports from several countries. After a meeting of its emergency committee on Tuesday, the U.N. health agency also said there is increasing evidence that a spike in disturbing birth defects and neurological problems are caused by Zika, which is mostly spread by mosquito bites. When WHO declared the explosive outbreak in the Americas to be a global emergency last month, it said that the evidence that Zika was responsible was only circumstantial. WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan said "reports and investigations...

The state party scrapped its traditional caucus after a conflict with the national Republican Party. BISMARCK, ND — A rule conflict between North Dakota’s Republican party and the national GOP organization has effectively scrapped the state’s caucuses, planned for March 1. Instead, an online straw poll is taking the pulse of North Dakotans. The GOP controls the statehouse and the governor’s office. In 2012, Republican nominee Mitt Romney carried the state in the general election. While the Republican National Committee requires delegates to be pledged on behalf of candidates to the national convention, the Fargo Forum reports the North Dakota...

TURBO, Colombia - The Zika epidemic flaring across the Americas has produced several hot spots with large numbers of cases. But there is no place quite like Turbo. The mosquito-borne virus has spread rapidly here and across lowland Colombia, but the city is unusual for the subsequent outbreak of a rare, debilitating disorder known as Guillain-Barre syndrome, whose precise link to the virus remains unclear. Before Zika's arrival in Turbo...

Brazil has sent more than 200,000 troops to go 'house to house' in the battle against Zika-carrying mosquitoes, blamed for causing a birth defect epidemic that is spreading rapidly across the world. Soldiers will visit homes across Brazil, distributing leaflets and dispensing advice, according to Health Minister Marcelo Castro, signalling a major ramping up of efforts against the Zika virus. The government, under growing pressure to deal with the crisis, will also...

Experts warn that we should be prepared for more dengue in the US and around the world. ‘Hawaii is a piece of a much bigger phenomenon that’s happening globally,’ says Dr. Peter Hotez at Baylor College of Medicine. It’s peak tourism season in Hawaii, and the state’s Department of Health has issued a warning for visitors and residents: dengue fever is spreading on the Big Island. More than 150 people on Hawaii Island have been infected with the mosquito-borne virus.
