Actually the majority of Southern Officers were for freeing the slaves as they saw slavery as a dying institution and wrong. Alas the New England Yankees who were making fortunes off the slave trade even up to 1870 had the laws written that you could not free your slaves unless you made sure they had a lifetime supply of $$$$ so they would not be a burden on society.

They only way you could free your slaves without bankrupting yourselves was when you died as the law did not apply then. Gen. Lee was made the exequatur of his father in laws estate and it took years to settle to do so finally completing it around the middle of the war.

As for the myth that all of the Coloured troops in the Union Army volunteered for service well that's a great big lie just like all of the rest of the Yankee propaganda we have been forced to believe. Yankee press gangs would travel all over an area when the army was in an area on raids, campaigns or whenever and drag the slave or freedman off at bayonet point and they resisted they threatened there families or there owners wives and children to make them go. A lot of the salves would try to escape and the ones who did told of the cruelty of the Yankee soldiers.

By the way upwards to 25-30% of the blacks in the South were Freedman or had never been slaves but were treated like they were slaves by Union troops with statements like “There are no free blacks in the South” and dragged away just like the other slaves. As Gen Sherman's Butcher to the sea campaign went through Georgia & the Carolina's his troops would hold up the “now” free slaves at the bridges until his troops got across then blow the bridges with the refugees trying to cross. While they were in the river his men shoot them if they tried to swim to the other side.

These are just a few of the stories that have not been told in the history books.

I have a good friend who served in the 82nd AB in Iraq & Afghanistan and served under him both times and made the comment that we are all just humans i.e. Gen. Eisenhower, Patton and others had their war time romances but that did not make there ability to command there troops or there Armies to victory any different.

I also forgot to mention that one of the 1st. F-15A’s that rolled off the assembly line had 1,000,000 hours on both original engines and this was in 1979!

P&W came and examined them and had the USAF pull the aircraft for study to see why this aircraft & engines had not needed to be overhauled at all since it was rolled off the assembly lines.

I was a jet engine Mechanic (USAF 78-80) and the Pratt & Whitney T100 engines used in the F-15/16s could go for at least 1,000 hours before we pulled them for major overhaul. If we had been at war the hours for overhaul was pushed to 1,500-2,000 hours because the engines were that good (Parts were made of Titanium, Silver & Gold)and they use even better engines today these aircraft not to mention the newer aircraft since then.

These look very similar to the first F-18s they were based off the same Russian aircraft as this new Chinese fighter. They had lots of problems with there landing gear, weapons capacity, range and there ejector seats.

I say there about 10+ years away from debugging this fighter!

I travel from Alabama through Mississippi then to Memphis, Tennessee and back several times a year. Over the last 4-5 years I have noticed the number of houses that are up for sale or just abandoned has increased exponentially each year.

Over the last year the number has increased from several hundred to 400-600 houses and that is mostly along the I-20/Alt72 Highway and this number does not include the number of business that have closed up.

I live here in the North Alabama area and about the only thing keeping the economy from collapsing is the Redstone Arsenal/NASA Federal employment(54,000)and the Corporations that support it. If the Government cuts continue our economy would fall like a rock! The number of houses in this area in the same condition has quadrupled over the last year along with the number of small/med/large business's. Employment is stagnant unless you work in one of the above mentioned areas. If you don't then you have to try taking a job waiting tables, mowing grass or something that pays $10.00 or less per hour. I truly believe the real factual unemployment is around 47% which beats the Great Depression's 36% by a large margin!

As to meeting the same “standards”, have you heard about the two FEMALE Rangers who were given around six(6)retries as well as help so they could pass and become Rangers.

When I was in the USAF under Carter they integrated women into some of our noncombat support units and ONLY 1 woman out of the dozen or so could do their job and she was the exception (Irish girl from Minnesota who was tough as nails, what an Irish temper. Most would just flirt with some of the guys and get them to do it for them!

I attend a small Baptist Church of about 80-100 here in North Alabama and I pity anyone who comes into our Church with a weapon of any kind. I think that half or more of the congregation carries a handgun.

My Grandfather was one of the smartest men I have ever known yet he had to drop out of school in the sixth grade during the depression.

I agree that IQ test are not worth ten cents. I was tested in the twelfth grade and had a IQ of 146. I thought that anyone who has a good memory can fake out most IQ test very easily.

And by the way my kids are smarter than both my wife (126) and me. I have told my kids not to let themselves be tested since it can cause them to become swell headed and think that they are smarter than other people just because of a set of numbers.

They stated in the article that there were “Scots, Celtic, Viking and Irish” in Scotland. Th Irish are Gaelic Scots who happen to be Celtic, and there are Gaelic Scots in Scotland who came from Ireland who are the same race. There are also Pict's in Scotland who are Celts as well.
Then you have the Norse in the north of Scotland who also trace there ancestry to the Celts.

As was posted above the Celtic people stretched from Ireland to as far away as the steppes of Russia and from Asia Minor (Turkey) to Norway. They are one of the oldest known races in the world.

My Insurance Agent put me into a Progressive plan.

I ran over something that fell from the back of a truck and it exploded under the right front end of my wife's van. it messed up the transmission and the right front axle/bearings.

The Mechanic told the agent that he should just right it off since the front end was warped and that even the transmission mounts were messed up.

The Progressive agent never told me any of this just that they were going to put in a new transmission and fix the axle.

I tried six (6) times to meet with him about the van and he always found something that interfered with the time.

I found out later that he had them rebuild the transmission and try to straighten the front end.

I ended up putting in two whole new axles before I got rid of the truck.

I have told everyone I can not to buy Progressive ever!
