The Memphis City Council has ordered the removal of the NB Forrest Statue that sits on top of the graves of General and Mrs. NB Forrest. This action breaks several laws and the order of the State for Memphis to not make any action toward the historical monument and grave site.

The Democrat Party resorted to handing out handbills linking Mayor Greg Davis, the Republican candidate for the House of Representatives (MS-01), to supporting a leader of the KKK. The DCCC was caught distributing handbills and flyers that accused Greg Davis of supporting a KKK leader. This action by the DCCC will escape press coverage on election day. It is a last minute surprise to motivate core Democrat supporters without press scrutiny. This ad could have been posted weeks ago but it wasn't because of the embarassment that would have resulted. A copy of the handbill can be seen at Yallpolitics.com.

Washington--From North Dakota to Texas, cattle have been dying by the hundreds from what some claim is the largest anthrax outbreak on record. Vaccination is an effecient, effective defense, experts say. At presstime, North Dakota officials estimated 500 dead bison and cattle and 101 quarantined premises. South Dakota claims at least 400 cattle have died from anthrax exposure on 53 premises. In Texas, two ranches were quarantined following antrax detection among deer, cattle and horses. Although the term "anthrax" often incites bioterrorism fears, the naturally occurring bacterial spore is endemic from the Gulf of Mexico through the Great Plains, experts...

Farenheit 9/11, R. 5 Stars plus. Lions Gate/IFC documentary directed by Michael Moore; run time -110 minutes 'Farenheit' elicits laughter, crying, thoughtfulness and a desire to learn more in order to get involved. Most of these emotions will depend on the perspective of truth, politics, and beliefs within each individual. At times, 'Farenheit 9/11" is not easy to watch, but it is even more difficult to stop viewing. It demands firm and honest answers. Many of the issues in the film are addressed in some of the books on the shelves in bookstores today. This film has had a great...

When the first human retroviruses, including HIV, were discovered in the '70s and '80s, decades of research on animal retroviruses allowed researchers and clinicians to rapidly develop diagnostics, treatments, and preventative measures for the emerging human diseases. History is repeating itself as the world public health community draws on decades of research on animal coronaviruses to help them understand and battle the emergent human coronavirus, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).On March 12, 2003, the World Health Organization issued a global alert for cases of atypical pneumonia in response to reports of an unidentified severe respiratory illness spreading in China and...
  • Scrapie; A disease caused by a prion related to BSE and CWD of Elk and Deer

Following is a synopsis of the current knowledge about scrapie and resource information. Causative agent, transmission:Scrapie is a tranmissable spongiform encephalopathy widely thought to be caused by a misfolded prion protein that accumulates in the brain. However, there are also two other theories--that the agent is a virus with unusual characteristics, or a virino, a small, noncoding regulatory nucleic acid coated with a host-derived protective protein. According to Dr. Katherine O'Rourke, a USDA research microbiologist in Pullman, Washington, "Infection is believed to be caused by ingestion of that misfolded protein (through the placenta and placental fluids) by the lamb or...

How does one cope with the loss of a loved one from suicide (the what ifs?)? How can someone with so much life, love and vitality leave with so much to live for, including a three year old daughter, end one's own life? How do you deal with the gossip associated with such a tragedy? What legal traps are there when dealing with the aftermath, such as bills, legal issues, small things that can come back to haunt one after the fact? Suely someone here can address or post a link to a site that addresses these issues in a ...

Our country, our livelihood, our religion and our way of life is in the midst of a great war. Our citizens have been ruthlessly murdered over Lockerbie, in the waters off of Yemen, in African embassies, in barracks in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, on commercial aircraft and on cruise ships. Now, the cowards have attacked our cities and killed thousands of American citizens and are now attempting to terrorize and poison our country with biological warfare agents. There is only one thing in common, these are moslem terrorists doing this in the name of a false prophet, Mohammed. How are ...
  • Letter From Governor Bush Concerning Confederate Plaques On Texas Supreme Court Building

State of Texas, Office of the Governor | October 13, 2000 | Shirley M. Green, Director of Correspondence and Constituent Services
Thank you for your letter about the Confederate plaques in the Texas Supreme Court Building. Governor Bush understands the sensitivity of this issue to many people. The Governor opposes any attempt to rewrite Texas history. Historical representations of the six governments that have governed Texas are displayed throughout the Capitol complex. These symbols and emblems reflect the history and the diversity that make the Lone Star State unique. Three large monuments on the Capitol grounds specifically commemorate Texas' involvement in the Civil War, and they will do so in perpetuity. In 1955, the Legislature stipulated that the Texas Supreme Court ...

The U.S. Air Force's next generation of motorized vehicles used to load cargo into aircraft won't be built in Corinth. But that doesn't mean the company who planned to build the military equipment locally was not the low bidder on the small loader project. In fact, the president of Teledyne Brown Engineering says taxpayers will pay 20 percent more for the loaders to be built by FMC, the company who was awarded the contract on Thursday. In a two page typed statement to The Daily Corinthian late Friday afternoon, Teledyne Brown Engineering President Richard A. Holloway said the comparison of his company's ...

New Brunswick, N.J.---In a judicial about face, Dr. Howard Baker, who had been convicted and stripped of his veterinary license for animal cruelty charges brought against him by a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) operative working undercover in his office, has been exonerated of all charges. On April 14, a New Jersey state Superior Court overturned Baker's July 1999 animal cruelty conviction and later that same month, the New Jersey Board of Veterinary Examiners (NJBVME) reinstated his veterinary license. The board had taken his license in August 1999 without conducting its own investigation. "I feel like a great ...

The Battle Flag of the Confederacy, genuine or not, which flies over the S.C. State House and is displayed in both Houses of the General Assembly, has once again become the center of controversy. Recently, the S.C. Legislative Black Caucus asked that the symbol of the Confederacy be removed; because it reminds blacks of slavery. The News and Courier commented on April 22 as follows: "an editorial entitled 'Furl the Flag' has caused heartburn among unreconstructed descendants of Confederate soldiers." Alas, it also brought heartache to this black writer, who cannot buy the socialist philosophy of the Garrisons and Sumners ...

Despite its simplicity, the obelisk in the grassy plot, enclosed by a pretty iron fence, is probably the most unusual Confederate monument in the United States. It is dedicated to black Confederates. Erected sometime before the turn of the century in Canton, Mississippi, the granite monument was given by William H. Howcott "to the memory of the good and loyal servants who followed the fortunes of Harvey's Scouts during the Civil War." Howcott, who was a member of the Scouts and later became a successful real estate agent in New Orleans, inscribed on the other side that is was ...

On August 17 the FDA advised blood establishments to ban frequent travelers to the United Kingdom as potential donors because of the theoretical risk of transmission of new variant Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease (nvCJD) to recipients of blood products. As a precautionary measure, the FDA asked blood centers to exclude potential donors who have spent six or more cumulative months in the UK between Dec 31, 1996 and Jan 1, 1980 from donating blood. The UK includes England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands. The FDA's guidance was developed with Canada's health ministry, Health Canada, which ...
