Hypocrisy alert: House Republican freshmen are begging their leaders to bring back a certain type of earmark so that they can help companies back home in an election year. In a letter to Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, 65 House Republican freshmen — or roughly three-quarters of the class — asked that the House consider a miscellaneous tariff bill jampacked with special provisions to suspend duties on various foreign goods, even though it runs counter to the earmark ban Republicans campaigned on in 2010 and instituted when they took power. Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich brought his campaign to Memorial Hall in downtown Dayton today. He ended his remarks to a packed crowd around 3:40 p.m. After the event, Gingrich and his wife Callista are visiting Hawthorn Hill, the Oakwood home once owned by Orville Wright.

I'm going to see Newt tomorrow in Dayton. Apparently he is going to be in Cincinnati and Columbus as well. His website calendar has no mention of these stops. Likewise, although I donated to his campaign I've pretty much quit receiving emails. I would have thought that at least the folks in OH would have received notice about his visit. In my opinion he needs to get new help on his website, emails, etc. Anyway, I just wanted to pass this info along.

I am a Newt supporter. So far he hasn't been too fiery. That being said, I refuse to support Romney. If its not Romney, I'm ready to support a Ron Paul third party candidacy. Romney is a gun grabbing socialist with no integrity. If we have to have a gun grabbing socialist in the Whitehouse, I'd rather it be a Democrat.

I think alot of GOP elites and leadership are totally missing Obama's re-election strategy. It has very little to do with "independents" and more to do with GOP turnout. Although I think that it admirable that Newt has chosen to avoid attacking the other candidates, I wonder if it is going to hurt him and conservatives. These debt deals keep getting worse and worse. Basically Boehner is signing up for either large tax increases or large defense cuts. Also he has caved on extending through the election. If he was going to fold like this at the last minute, he should have just saved us the trouble at the beginning. Reid and the Dems have ran circles around these guys. Trey Gowdy and Steve Southerland introduced legislation today that puts America’s seniors, veterans and active duty military first in the event a debt limit agreement is not reached by the President’s August 2nd deadline. H.R. 2534, the Ensuring America’s Promises Act of 2011, would require the federal government to pay Social Security, Medicare and veterans benefits, active duty military salary, and interest on the federal debt before meeting other spending obligations.
