NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A former Virginia man accused of having a cache of weapons and a map of an Army base in his New Jersey motel room appeared briefly in court Friday for the second time this week. Like the first time, prosecutors were mum on how imminent a threat they believe Lloyd Woodson posed. During his court appearance, Woodson was assigned a public defender and waived a detention hearing, meaning he will remain in custody.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — The Pakistani army says it has discovered a van packed with almost 900 pounds of explosives in the country’s northwest. It says militants planned to use the vehicle in a suicide bombing. The army media center says the van was discovered during a raid Sunday on a house in the Khyber tribal region near the Afghan border. Six suspected militants were arrested in the raid.
