Harrowing footage shows a 89-year-old grandmother suffering from dementia being abused by four cruel carers after her family became suspicious of bruises on her body and hid a secret camera in her bedroom. Sisters Danielle and Rebecca Hinsley unwittingly captured footage that 'broke our hearts' after becoming concerned when their grandmother Beryl Wall's behaviour changed and she was left with injuries to her body. The pair complained to staff at the Wolverhampton care home in February 2020 but were left dissatisfied with the response so took matters into their own hands. Ms Wall's granddaughters put a Yi Eye Wi-Fi camera...

Angelyn Peralta Aguirre, a 33-year-old caregiver from the Philippines, was by the side of her 70-year-old patient, Nira last Saturday when Hamas terrorists attacked Kibbutz Kfar Gaza. Aguirre had been Nira’s caregiver for six years. In the face of such horror, Aguirre did not abandon her patient. She took her to a shelter where they both hid. “Wadiya la ra. Natatakot ak (They are already here. I am afraid),” the 33-year-old caregiver said in one voice message sent to the family chat group. More messages followed but three hours later, she went silent. “At that moment we were praying for...

My sister and I are the primary caretakers of our elderly mom. She's 89 and disabled and has issues with memory due to age and TIAs. She has been to the ER twice this week. Once by ambulance...second by general admission. We were NOT allowed by the hospital to be with her. We had no way of knowing treatment for her was administered or diagnosis...even tho they gave us a "# to call". That proved useless. She was sent home with a UTI she was sent home with but they failed to treat her for it...even tho it was logged....

As much joy as a pet can bring to the life of its human, when a beloved dog or cat falls ill, the emotional toll can be high. In fact, caring for an ailing animal often ends up placing a significant "caregiver burden" on its owner, new research finds. "Think of the phrase, 'Giving until it hurts,'" said study author Mary Beth Spitznagel. Essentially, it's the heavy emotional burden one can experience when the act of caring stretches a person's physical, emotional or even financial capacities to the breaking point. "We found that individuals with a chronically or terminally ill...

Cognitive decline and memory loss are the biggest fear factor for seniors and their caregivers. Frustrations, miscommunications, and strained emotions further cloud an issue characterized by mental haze. Determining if “senior moments” are consistent enough to affect quality of life and whether something should be done requires communication. It may be failure to pay attention that first raises concern and prompts the need for discussion. Sometimes seniors become so accustomed to others planning their days that they don’t take much time to focus on the details. A senior may ask a question and then not pay attention to or not...

"When will this misery be over?" My mother uttered these words on a day when the aches and pains of old age were especially intense. Mentally I knew the answer, but I said, "I'm sorry you're uncomfortable." As I prepared to go, my mother said, "Don't leave me," so I sat and waited until she nodded off before exiting the room. Alone in my car, the tears slid down my face, and I realized that even though my mother is still alive, I'm already grieving her death. Caregiver grief is a complicated puzzle of sorrow, guilt, and longing for the day...

Caregiving is not a journey most of us choose. Often, we take the initial steps on the caregiving path thinking it's only a walk to the mailbox or a casual stroll around the lake. Soon we've walked mile after mile. Our starting point is so far behind us we can't see it anymore, and our destination is clouded by hills and valleys, bends and turns in the caregiver road. I've learned ten things (at least) on my journey. Perhaps they will benefit you as well. Nurture yourself. When serving as a caregiver, your own spiritual and physical health are often...

A bruised upper lip. Broken ribs. A severe skull fracture. The head injury would kill tiny Delijahjuan Winden on Tuesday, after only 41 days of life. The infant died when his caregiver, Daniel Leikas, raised him over his head and threw him into a car seat, according to charges filed Wednesday. He was frustrated because Delijahjuan was fussy and crying all night, the court document said. "This is the first time I've seen an infant this young beaten this badly," Minneapolis Police Capt. Mike Martin said. Police came to the north Minneapolis apartment of Leikas and the baby's mother, Zonebia...

After I mentioned how much I would enjoy a weekly thread for moms, I heard back from many of you expressing interest in the idea. Well, let's give it a go! Here is the initial problem:If such a thread were left entirely to my care, it would be posted three or four times a year, not weekly. I am woefully undisciplined when it comes to this kind of management.Possible solution #1: We have a round-table style of posting with different mothers volunteering to post the upcoming week's thread.Possible solution #2: Supermom steps up to the plate and offers to take...
