She led a roundtable discussion about what needs to change with the nation's energy policy to lower high fuel and food costs. Incumbent Mead School Board member Carmen Green was in a tight race to keep her seat Tuesday night. Green’s challenger, BrieAnne Gray, a nurse practitioner, was leading the race with about 51%. The race brought in more contributions than any race in the Mead School District in recent history. Gray raised more than $42,000 as of Tuesday, more than double Green, who raised about $19,000. Prior to 2019 when one candidate raised $10,500, no Mead School Board candidate raised more than $5,000. Despite the results, Green said she was “super hopeful” with the amount of ballots still left to count......

His name was on ballots printed and mailed to primary voters this week.

There’s no doubt now. The race for Congress in Eastern Washington is for real. Out of more than 120,000 votes counted, Republican U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers had a lead of a little more than 500 votes in Tuesday’s primary over Democrat Lisa Brown. The contest, between the high-ranking congressional Republican and a Democrat with years of experience in state political leadership, has drawn national interest and big spending as the parties vie for support in the first midterm election since President Donald Trump took office. Buoyed by the down-ticket performance of other Democrats, a beaming Brown took the stage...

House GOP leaders have launched an internal review into how someone secretly recorded and leaked audio of a private 2016 leadership meeting in which Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) jokes about how Russia is paying off President Trump. SNIP Leadership sources suspect the leaker is former CIA officer Evan McMullin, who attended the June 15 meeting in the Capitol in his capacity as a top policy aide to GOP Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.)

The House's highest-ranking Republican woman said Thursday South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley should be judged on her abilities, not her looks, dismissing a remark by fellow Republican Rep. Steve King. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who is fourth in leadership as the chair of the Republican Conference, was asked about King's comment to The Associated Press that Haley wasn't a "principled conservative" in the GOP, but "I think she's beautiful so I'd be happy if she's the face of the party." [...] "Nikki Haley is a proven leader. And that is what she should be judged on," the Washington state Republican...

(Washington, DC) Republicans in the House of Representatives have banded together to ensure a cooperative debate on strategy and party disagreements before House GOP conference chairwoman Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) can try to help House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) take Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’s ’s soon-to-be-vacated job as House Speaker, and instead force a special extended conference meeting that can now happen without McMorris Rodgers’ approval. The debate is enabled by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL), who was circulating a letter to his colleagues calling for debate on the Speakership process. At least 50 fellow GOP members have...

Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio, announced Friday he will resign from Congress -- his seat as well as his speakership -- at the end of October after more than 20 years on Capitol Hill. The resignation will likely see a throng of Republicans vie to replace Boehner, who in recent months has faced pressure to step down over internal GOP fighting on issues such as funding for disease research, an education bill and the possible renewal of the Export-Import Bank. Below is a list of the members most likely to replace him. 1. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.: McCarthy has...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)There are 65 prominent people who might run for president in 2016. The Democratic and Republican fields contrast sharply. Hillary Clinton is the clear front-runner, while there is no front-runner on the Republican side. Twenty-three Democrats have been mentioned as a candidate or are eyeing a bid, according to an analysis by The Hill. The GOP side has 42. Most of the people on this list won’t run, and some have adamantly claimed that they’re not interested. But many politicians have changed their minds on seeking the White House. Before mounting his 2008 bid, then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said he...

On the day that Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) told a local newspaper that she believed amnesty legislation could be brought to the floor by August, she met with Satya Nadella, the new CEO of Microsoft. “I believe there is a path that we get a bill on the floor by August,” House GOP Conference Chair McMorris Rodgers said last Friday. “We’re going to have to push that this is a legal status, not amnesty." That same day, she tweeted a photo of herself with Nadella from her verified @cathymcmorris Twitter account.

President Obama’s State of the Union speech closed with a truly uniting moment when he honored the sacrifice of Army Ranger Cory Remsburg. Sergeant Remsburg bravely fought for our country through 10 tours of duty. Too bad House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) ensured that division was the name of the game only hours later. Rep. Hoyer attacked Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), who delivered the GOP response to the State of the Union. Ignoring her stature in the GOP and her intellectual acumen, he instead reduced her solely to her gender, calling her a “transparent” choice to give the...

Washington’s Gov. Jay Inslee has warned Congress, in a blunt letter, to recognize the “real world” and not to impose any more “needless, self-inflicted” wounds on the American economy. The governor’s letter came on a morning when the Republican-run U.S. House of Representatives voted — almost entirely on party lines — to fund the federal government until Dec. 15, but only if implementation of the Affordable Care Act (aka. “Obamacare”) is halted. “You should not allow the peoples’ health care to be held hostage,” Inslee wrote to Congress’ leaders. “It is troubling that some in Congress would stop government from...

We are glad the president is seeking authorization for any military action in Syria in response to serious, substantive questions being raised. Responding to veepstakes rumors, Washington Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, vice chair of the House Republican Conference and a rising star on Capitol Hill, says she's open to being Mitt Romney's running mate and encourages him to tap a woman for the job. From National Review's Robert Costa: In an interview with National Review Online, the four-term Republican acknowledged that she's open to the idea, but took care to note that she is not "seeking" the nod. Romney, she says, should simply pick a conservative running mate—and if it's a woman, all the better. "Republican women bring an important voice to...
